IMHO SFU Marines are more tightly woven into Starfleet (the Navy) than the USMC. I don't think they have their own bombers. Or even fighter squadrons.

Bombers are a local defense thing.

Mike, just because they “are a local defense thing”, does not automatically eliminate any other possible role that these bomber shuttles might be able to fill.

My first thought, after reading the google quote was to note that of the sixteen squadrons, eight were assigned to missions in the Pacific theater of operations.

One might suppose the other eight squadrons ended up somewhere else.

To apply that sort of thinking to divide the type evenly might fit into history as support squadrons on the line of supply for the klingon and Romulan invasions of their respective homeworkds during the later part of the General War.

NOT as Planetary Defense Units on populated worlds, but as defenses of supply nodes of the Alliance inva#ion routes.

That means eith bomber barges (already published) of as independent bomber squadrons at casual fighter bases.

It would fit the history.

Interesting historical thing but nothing to do with SFU.

SFB bombers can carry cluster bombs, but given how the bombers are needed for planetary defense, I don't see them using that munition.

On the other hand, what about a scenario where there are two planets in a star system, one in, say, Federation hands, the other in Klingon.

At closest approach, maybe forty million miles away from each other (like Earth and Mars)? IF the Federation are trying to take the Klingon held planet, might they try to get help from the garrison on the planet they hold?

Oooh! Getting a screwball idea for a double scenario story!!

By Gregory S Flusche (Vandar) on Monday, April 27, 2026 - 06:10 pm: Edit

good story.

The Federation fighters/bombers vs Klingon Gunboats (that is PFs).

SVC:

Pity.

I was looking forward to discussing the differences in various models, (“ The Navy/Marine variant was named PBJ-1 (PBJ-1C, 1D, 1G, 1H, and 1J variants,”)

And yes, I especially meant the PBJ-1J one, just thought of it as a “joke squared” fighter shuttle.

Guess it was just too lake for April 1st.

You could have HTS or GAS shuttles loaded with Bording parties. Escorted by Bombers/fighters. Trying to land them on the planet. The Klingon PFs trying to stop the landings. Victory conditions relying on how many BPs get on the ground.

We did a scenario once with two planets in the same system, occupied by warring powers.

I really am not that personally interested in bomber scenarios, but whatever.

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica_Orsini) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 - 10:37 am: Edit

I recall that scenario; (SL63.0) Firefight in CL#3, if I'm not mistaken. Fun little fight with opposing base stations, both orbiting opposing Class-M planets, and their respective fighters (all fairly low-end, it being set in Y169). If someone wanted to get wiggy with it, they could add bomber bases on the planets and go for it (albeit with the similarly low-end bombers available in that year).

Can a topic be added for products not specifically listed in F&E After Action Reports?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 - 07:42 pm: Edit

Which product?

By Ken Kazinski (Kjkazinski) on Sunday, May 31, 2026 - 10:13 am: Edit

A general topic for all the products that do not have their own topic.
