The company that made DISCUS went out of business decades ago. There will be no updates for DISCUS. Given that DISCUS as it is has features no other BBS software has, features without which we cannot manage a BBS doing what this one does, there is simply no alternative but to continue using DISCUS as it is indefinitely.

A few points.

- Regardless of whether Discus can handle HTTPS or not, it would be really great if the FC Forum could be moved to HTTPS. Honestly, there isn't any real reason for it not to be there now. Getting a third-party signed certificate isn't that expensive. The only hassle is that it has to be updated (and paid for) each year. This really should be done.

- No one should be using any kind of "real" password on Discus. Any password used on Discus (and for now the FC Forum) should NEVER be used anywhere else. Assume everyone already knows your password used on Discus and the FC Forum.

- Sure, the company that made Discus is gone. But, we have a lot of web-heads on this board. I am sure someone can likely hack a lot of what would be needed to make things work. Anything in HTML or JavaScript should be modifiable. It should definitely be possible to convert even this unsupported Discus to use HTTPS.

(Important note: even if Discus is hacked to consistently use HTTPS, the system is likely still completely insecure. Any password used here should *still* never be used anywhere else.)

- The digital storefront *does* use HTTPS, so anything you do there should be (relatively) safe. That said, DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR DISCUS AND THE STOREFRONT!! If you use the same password, your credit card information used in the storefront is not safe! Use a completely different password for the digital store!

- More generally, it is time to figure out what the plan is when HTTP is forbidden. It will happen. It doesn't matter what is "better" or "worse", whether "old" is good enough or better or whatever. The point is that HTTP is going away. Probably time to start figuring out how to deal with that.

Folks, when we moved our site, we tried switching the site to https. Immediately, we lost the BBS. The good folks at our webhosting site tried their best to make the BBS work as https, but it just didn't. Unfortunately, you can't have part of your site as http and part as https. If we want to keep the BBS, we are stuck with http.

The webstore has a different domain, so it is https.

Since the last OS update, the DISCUS page no longer works on my Samsung/Android phone in Chrome.

Given that it's not a real computer, the instructions posted up-topic aren't any good for me.

Doesn't work for me in Android Chrome either, but it works fine in Android Firefox, which I use more than Chrome anyway.

Android Chrome does have a Site Settings list (tap the menu button upper right corner, tap settings, tap site settings), but site settings does not have an Insecure Content option, and I don't see it anywhere else so far.

If you are having trouble viewing ADB's website using Chrome.
1. Right click the lock in the address bar next to starfleetgames.com
2. Select site settings
3. Scroll down to the Insecure content line, click the box, and select Allow.
4. Close the settings tab and reload the page.

Howdy everyone,

Am I the only one who the main discussion page is not loading for?

Whenever I go straight to the URL: https://www.starfleetgames.com/discus/, it shows the thinner tree view pane on the left and the main page on the right, but neither of them has any text or data populated. It's just blank.

I can however go to the other pages normally which don't have the tree view on the left. Is something wrong with the web page?

It is the security settings of your browser that complain over the protocol for the webpage is not secure (or something like that)
