Drone control is much better for the CV group, as you can only control the number of seeking weapons based on your sensor rating (F3.21). The BC can control 6 seeking weapons and the CC 12, for a total of 24.
The CV group can control CV (12), CLE(6), EEF (6), 12xAAS (2 control channels/fighter, 24) for a total of 48 drones.

Drone control throw weight over Direct fire Disrupters.
Seems to be the difference in the two ways of playing it out.

Gregory,
There are some factors you haven't specified, but which might be important. Which empire are you fighting against and how good are their drone defenses? Also, is this on a floating map or a fixed map? What other rules are you using? Electronic warfare? Leaky shields? Critical hits? All these (and more) could affect which force you choose.

I was not thinking of any empire other then Historic ones. I was going with Med speed drones.
Any thing else was nothing specific. More like a campaign that will give You random battles vs Historic races. Would it be worth buying the carrier group or the BC/CC type ships. As the carrier group must be in the same battle. (escorts with the carrier)

Vandal:
Either option has advantages or disadvantages.
It’s the drone speed upgrade charges that make the difference.
The late GW era (years beyond year 175) where the TAAS get deployed. Means more of the force is concentrated (in total BPVs) in the fighters and drones rather than the ships.
Eventually (depending on commanders options points) you might find it hard to fit the force into the 550 BPV price point.
The escorts are useful, but not necessarily helpful if you need fire power. The Escort frigate (FFE,FFA) has some drones but really ends up being a damage sponge. Simply does not have enough phasers, or heavy weapons to be effective. Same with the other escort. Not as weak as the FFA, but still not on the same level as CC,2*BC force you listed as an alternative.
It comes down to cases. The CC,2*BC force is good for all around general scenarios. The Carrier force (when handled well) can exert a massive alpha strike once or twice, then it runs out of fighters and drones.
A lot depends on the tactical situation.
