Gary,

Need help with the spreadsheet. I am very good at creating macro's.

Ken

Thanks, but I'm just brute-forcing it with cut-and-paste.

By Ken Kazinski (Kjkazinski) on Monday, April 23, 2007 - 08:54 pm: Edit

Gary - That should be a job for a macro.

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Monday, April 23, 2007 - 09:15 pm: Edit

Don't know how you would do it with a macro. Or at least where programming the macro would be less time than just doing it.

By Ted Fay ;
Another problem was that you couldn't load the drones later if, for example, you reloaded them. That's was a problem.

Unloaded them you mean? There should be a way to take racks off line for unloading and reloading, as a future feature at least.

By Peter Thoenen ;
Don't want a popup as some SH's you don't start with full racks and some you start empty.

A popup would merely make sure you knew you had an ammo form that also reminded you that once submitted, it can't be changed (short of loading as above). And IIRC, racks are fully loaded with at least one set of drones and you must buy the speed upgrade for the year of the scenario(although this rule does leave some wiggle room unfortunately).

Just an update, I'm still working on coming up with all the drone combinations (and a lot of data related to each combination). We're up to the Fast-speed Type-Is.

Still time for people enter the pool by picking a number of how many combinations there will be when it's done. :)

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 12:42 am: Edit

Drone combination spreadsheet is done.
Sent for feedback and proofreading.

Unique drones were created by combinations of:

Type-I, -II, -III, -IIIXX, -IV, -V, -VI, -VII, -VIII, -IX, -H1, -H2, -H3, -H4

All speeds (Slow, Moderate, Medium, Fast)

All (logical) warhead combinations and frame modifications.

Each year where availability is different.

And lines for EY Explosive (50% damage before Y125).

TOTAL = 2867

Gary: But what about by illogical but legal combinations ;)

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 10:49 am: Edit

My question is: how many of these combinations are valid for an empty Type-A rack? (i.e. size 1 or 2)

I leave those to you, Peter. :)

Quote:

The breakdown is:

Type-I: 316
Type-II: 52
Type-III: 67
Type-IV: 1055
Type-V: 93
Type-VI: 8
Type-VII: 62
Type-VIII: 150
Type-IX: 1
Type-H: 984

Answer: (316+52+67+1055+93) = 1583

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 01:15 pm: Edit

D'oh! Missed listing the Type-III-XX drones when I posted earlier, which led me to some moderate-speed combos I'd missed.

The (revised) breakdown is:

Type-I: 316
Type-II: 52
Type-III: 80
Type-III-XX: 80
Type-IV: 1055
Type-V: 93
Type-VI: 8
Type-VII: 62
Type-VIII: 150
Type-IX: 1
Type-H: 984

Total = 2881

Eligable for Type-A rack: (316+52+80+80+1055+93) = 1676

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 04:10 pm: Edit

lol @ 2881 different combinations .. even more complexity that I imagined :)

Makes me want to play BP or Lyran more ;)

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 04:38 pm: Edit

Fortunatley, most combinations are not worth it. I only have about five dozen in my SFBOL account.

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 05:23 pm: Edit

Agreed.

The slow and moderate-speed drones with external armor are too slow to be usable.

Players don't often bother with PROBE modules unless they know there is a reason for them.

STINGRAY (1xType-VI) and STONEFISH (1xADD) aren't worth a drone slot. I don't consider SPEARFISH to be worthwhile, either.

The Type-Hs are 34% of the total but are almost never used.

When you take all of that out, there's probably more than the 60 Ted has but not near the total available.

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Sunday, October 07, 2007 - 12:53 pm: Edit

Paul - What's our path forward from here?

It seems that my list of pre-configured drones is a bit...overwhelming.

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Monday, October 08, 2007 - 07:17 pm: Edit

Gary: Why? To it once correctly and everybody will love you for years to come

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 - 12:36 am: Edit

Client general discussion thread is down, so I'm posting this here.

For a long time now, I've been using an impromptu, fast-to-create spreadsheet for tracking my opponent's plasma torp arming status. I build it in the "notes" tab of an SFBOL game room.

I thought I would post it here in case someone else thought it useful. This spreadsheet takes only about 1-2 minutes to make (tops) and is very handy. I even expand it out for fleet battles.

Anyway, here it is (this is my actual table I built for my current World League game against jonbig):

TubeFakeTurn 1Turn 2Turn 3Turn 4Turn 5
AAU12
BUAAA
C--AAA
D--AAA

Tube is obvious. Elsewhere, "A" stands for "available," "U" stands for "used," an arabic numeral stands for turn of arming. To account for unknown torps still on the board, I'll assume all torps are real, but put a "?" next to an entry until the torp is revealed. (If it's not revealed, I leave the ? mark). If a torp is fake, I adjust "fake" column accordingly.

Just think. You've squandered a perfectly good minute reading this post! :)

I know its been an insanely long time but any chance you can import Gary's massive all inclusive drone library

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - 07:07 pm: Edit

Peter,
Do you truly want a library of over 1600 drones?

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - 08:16 pm: Edit

Yes though even better, maybe a importer.

E.g. the ability to import from the master drone list to the local drone list. Each client would store a master drone list but you could also create a local list of only drones you used importing off the master.

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Friday, December 24, 2010 - 09:13 pm: Edit

I still have my list of drone combinations. It can be downloaded from my BOX.NET account at:

By Les LeBlanc (Lessss) on Saturday, December 25, 2010 - 08:56 pm: Edit

Yes a front end to missile purchases is a no brainer must.
Input race, year, select optional map location or ship modifiers and it only shows you the drones avail, and stops showing them when max purchase is reached.

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 - 08:37 pm: Edit

Les / Gary:

You both still alive? .. long time no see in SFBOL.

Gary: Good deal, I lost my copy awhile ago when my box crashed.

By Gary Bear (Gunner) on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 - 10:55 pm: Edit

Year is the biggie. Most of the drones in my list have multiple lines for the same drone because the availability changes over time (Lim > Rest > Gen). By selecting a specific year, you basically throw half of the possible combinations out (since some will always be Lim or Rest based on the modules chosen).

Yes, I'm still alive. Working more than I'd like and my SFBOL account has lapsed.

By Justin Royter (Metaldog) on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 - 12:26 pm: Edit

Paul can we get a way to randomize drn launches from both ships and shuttles (fighters too?)

A good starting point would be the TD7 which needs a way to launch its type VI's randomly so the opponent is not always just knowing the drn launched from the add is always the last one, thanks!
