I've noticed some people mention Y179 for rear F-torps. It's important to note that many, many ships get them prior to Y179. Some as early as Y171. They become ubiquitous in Y179 but that's not the first deployment by any stretch. Our campaign is currently in Y172 but every ship I've fielded which isn't a DN has the rear torps.
I wouldn't have chosen ISC if they didn't.

Sounds like a fun scenario, Ginger!

I hope. It won't be fun (for me) if I get mangled. I'm sure David would see it the other way. LOL

Very interesting using Speed 10 WS-II, not how I'd fly a ship into a fight but to each their own!
That makes allocating speed 10 in reverse for the whole of turn 1 possible, but expensive. Doesn't significantly change the retrograde comments much.
And as for the Y179 thing, I was just going off the SSDs, which I use for quick reference. I'm actually surprised that it's not correct for many of the ships.

The ISC SSDs are definitely messed up. Hopefully the master starship book will come out and clarify a lot of things.
We use 10 & II because that's what's in the fleet action scenario in Basic Missions and we're going off of that.

>> gas giant in the middle of the battlefield is problematic
If memory serves, can't atmospheric capable units actually go inside the gas giant and hide in it?
Wasn't there a historical scenario where some Hydran units hid inside a gas giant?
Just something that came to mind as I was reading about your scenario.

IIRC, the scenario in question was Hydrans and Orions fighting over who was going to retrieve some "Probe Drone Modules" that were in the atmosphere of a Gas Giant.
As far as "Hiding" units go, I think the rules don't allow that. Basically, if a unit could remain undetected (undetectable?) just by hiding in a gas giant, who WOULDN'T build their BatS/SB in them?
I don't have the rules in front of me, but if I remember correctly, each hex of atmosphere just compounds the penalties for shooting at something on a planetary surface (warhead strength lost, ECM penalties, etcetera).
OTOH, a fleet trying to rescue a cripple (lost its warp engines, perhaps? Maybe a Fed saucer or Klingon Boom?) that's hiding in the atmosphere of a Gas Giant could make for a good terrain based scenario.

I see the information for the battle has changed.
A gas giant, WS-II, speed 10, a FED BS.
So, where exactly is the BS?
Both sides will likely be speed 20 with all weapons armed at the end of the turn.
I presume at a minimum that the ISC must destroy the BS to have a chance of winning the battle.

Did I say BS at some point? That would have been a typo. There were 4xCS in the battle.
In any case the battle isn't going to happen. The campaign it was part of had long since devolved into a mix of debate club and work on my off days. At least for me. I dropped out. I hope everyone else has fun and I'll definitely still be available as a proxy captain if needed.
I'll most likely be playing ISC at whatever my next game session is. We play in person monthly and I've got an SFBOL account still waiting to be used so hopefully it won't be long.
