I have said this before, many times, but I shall say so again, in this topic, and lock it so that it will always be here for others to review.

1. X2 isn't on the schedule. It is on the "list" of things we might do, but the list is long. X2 has its supporters (as do all projects) and might be considered in the upper third of things that might get selected next time we pick things. It probably will not be selected in the next round but X1R might be and we'd need to do that before X2 anyway.

2. When it comes time to do X2, the plan is for me to do the outline, history, and core rules without ANY input, then review the hundreds of submissions over the years to see what could be added or if I missed something. Any X2 submissions are filed UNREAD and will remain unread until this time.

3. I do not review any of the X2 topics (except, rarely, to stop flamewars) with anything near the regularity to give any kind of opinion.

4. Lots of very creative, enthusiastic, and clever people have proposed lots of stuff about and for X2. There is, however, clearly no concensus about what will be in it. There are those who think that because others have stopped arguing with them that they have won the argument, but the others just got tired of arguing and haven't agreed to anything.

5. I applaud and admire the creativity shown in the many submissions and expect that some of them can find a place in X2. Nobody, however, has the inside track, nothing is agreed or even lightly pencilled in.

6. I do not, have not, and will not work with any individual on their proposal for X2.

7. Given how far behind I am on so many things, I lack the luxury of time to review any X2 material at this time or in the forseeable future.

UPDATE 16 DEC 05: While still holding out no hope that I'll work on X2 within the next year (X1R has to be done first!!!) I was asked to issue a ruling on one question: Can X1 or X0 ships be converted to X2? Answer: I have always assumed that the answer to this question is HECK NO and while I have never heard a reason to disbelieve this perception, I cannot predict if somebody might come up with one. Changes are really really tiny, however.
