Today we processed three proposals files, and plan to do a few each week.

I have been processing several proposals every day. So far the CL54 Proposals Board is four pages long and I haven't even scratched the surface. A few notes.

When I have spare time at home (or insomnia like now, it being 4am) I read proposals on my iPad. If I think I can turn them into a Proposals Board item, I move them to a folder marked PROCESSED and then in the office I allocate thirty minutes to the project and turn one or more of the PROCESSED items into CapLog stuff and delete it.

In a few cases I can just delete the topic outright (e.g., we already published it, the proposal was obviously a joke).

In a few cases I move the folder to R2020 to discuss with SPP later. Moving it there means we will think about it and if finally accepted we may modify or redesign it. It does NOT mean we approved it or promised it for R13.

A bit of philosophy...

Jean and I were reviewing my progress on reducing BBS bloat. I mentioned that I had four (now five on the way to twenty) pages of proposals board for CL54. This set off a round of discussions about what to do with so many pages when previous Caplogs never had more than one. Options were:
1. Put them in the issue (lots of pages for non-play value material)
2. Put them in the supplement (gets easily lost when indexing)
3. Put them in a website download page (nobody would remember them)
4. Make a separate product (cheap PDF) of such pages.

No solution was found. You guys produce more proposals than we have time or space to handle. Sigh.

But at one point Jean was clowning around and described Proposals Board as endless items describing why we hate Proposals. My feelings were very hurt.

Steve Petrick and I print Proposals Board articles (admittedly, most are rejected) for several reasons.
1. To honor those who risk rejection. We always have said it is better to be rejected than to not try at all.
2. You deserve an answer including WHY rejected proposals were rejected and why accepted proposals were accepted.
3. Others can study rejected proposals and gain insight into the engineering background of the universe and sometimes a better understanding of what will sell and what is too expensive to print.

Steve P and I have always strived to respond to proposals with the soul of a teacher. We never reject YOU even if we often reject most of your ideas. Sometimes we are less kind in writing rejections than maybe we should be, and somewhat more often the person proposing a new idea is just not going to be happy with any answer but yes, no matter how unrealistic the proposals were.

So understand what we are trying to do here:
1. Encourage proposals
2. Reward creativity
3. Sift jewels out of a bucket of sand.
4. Maintain the interest of those who read and discuss proposals.
5. Teach as many as possible about the game background .
6. Sometimes teach lots of people about production and markets.

We never ever set out to belittle or humiliate anyone.
