Dark Times: A glimmer of Hope.
This new phase in the Andromedan War continues as more commerce is being destroyed. Intel people think the Andros may have a way around those convoys that had a military defense. In the last year and a half the galaxy logistics system has been hit hard. Almost 370 freighters have been taken out in the Andros new push to grind the Galactic Powers economy to dust. It's believed that some empires are now in crises mode for their logistics (Kzinti). It should be noted that the Frax have made huge gains in convoy defense, not a single convoy that was found was attacked. The military did a great job protecting all the freighters. This is in contrast to the last year when the Frax had gotten really clobbered. But all is not hopeless.....
For the first time we are seeing those new second generation X ships FINALLY pull their weight and cost. The average second generation cruiser is at least 3.5 times as expensive as its first generation counterpart. The argument about quality over quantity seems to be waning, with the tilt toward quality. While expensive there are things the second generation X squads can do that just cant be done as well as a first generation X squad. Their high speed and flexible reactionary movements seem to be making them the ideal choice in hunting Andromendan ships. The Galactic Powers have a glimmer of hope.
A massive Alunda second generation X squad, operating in Lyran space; chased, caught and killed most of a Andromedan SQ. Sporting 145 scout channels, two 2ndGen cruisers, a 2nd Gen command cruiser, and 15 2ndGen DDs and FFs, it was a sight to behold for the Lyran system of Korwar. In a flash of combat a SHV and 5 cobras were knocked out, perhaps the first SHV in all the war, however it did come with a price, the loss of a second generation cruiser. In Klingon space several COQ class ships were also hunted down and killed with an 2nd generation XSQ very similar to the Alunda one at Korwar. The real heroes are the second generation X ships, perhaps they are worth the cost after all, if nothing for the morale boost they provide. The Galactic Powers also found 3 SAT of the RTN. The real test of second generation X ships is when the invasion of Andromedan space starts...but that's another story.
So….
The super high speed movement between galaxies is possible, so far over 90 or so manned unit have made the journey. High speed MV inside the Milky Way is also now reality. Normal movement to other galaxies is possible using a defined “wormhole-warp” technology. New, super advanced ships (X2) will probably be needed, and at least 220 are confirmed to to exist.
New forms of supply will need to be developed, of which are now being developed.
GP know that 2 galaxies seem to be involved, one is called the HUB and the other ANDROMEDA, but detailed astronomical observations are still scant.
The estimated cost of mounting an operation to just one galaxy is 1/3 the total Galactic Power GNP. The estimated research outlay needs to be in the 10,000 of thousands of economic points.

Frax System Lost!
Veltressai, a Frax system in sector EE68 has been annihilated. Nothing but an asteroid field where millions once lived. Despite the Frax navy rushing to the systems defense, they arrived too late to stop planetary charges from being set. Another Andro victim of world annihilation in the Milky Way galaxy. The Andros lost very little in the attack. During the battle the Frax have detected some new Andro technology in use. While classified, it clearly has the Frax worried. While it is dire news for the Frax, overall the Galactic Powers are still ahead creating 8 new systems in its place. Strategically we seem to be winning the war of economics.
The Frax also report mysterious happenings of two convoys on normal routes. One in sector MM73 and one in sector NN74. The incident: In both cases the commanders claimed several odd energy balls “magically” chased, and hit them. The energy balls seem to come out of nowhere as they were traveling through the hex. The explosions were not very large (a few damage points) but enough to take out 2xFS in MM73 and 1xFS in NN74. The FLs were damaged but will be able to continue on and get repaired. This is confirmed from nearby systems, and these energy balls seem to appear out of nowhere, it is not believed any RTN was involved.
In slightly better news the massive commerce raiding campaign appears to be over. Many GP worked hard to find a solution to this problem that has plagued the galactic powers for over a year and a half. Boosting ships on convoy duty and assigning the new second generation X squadrons to follow Andro contacts seems to have worked. With the war of economics and commerce raiding seemingly in check perhaps its time to take the fight to the Andros?
The real Question on peoples mind is the Invasion. The “Invasion”, a thing of theory only 10yrs ago seems to be a reality. The only question is when, where , and with how many galactic power forces? The people of the Milky Way cant wait to take the fight to the Andromedans.

RYN System Poisoned!
Terminus, a RYN system in sector WW38 has been attacked and poisoned with the Andro pestilence. This time however the usual vaccines are not working and its clear the Andros have developed a new strain of contagion. Terminus will be lost as quarantine and evacuations have begun. The Andros wandered about looking and seeking targets, finally ending up in a large mass at sector TT47. The mysterious magical energy balls that plagued the Frax continue to do so, but now they are also in RYN space and this time they are killing freighters and FT! Its pretty clear that we are dealing with some kind of displacement/temporal MX. Convoys were lost in Qari, Lyran, Khol, Selt, and especially Hydran space. At the local level the losses are painful, but from a galactic point of view its nothing we cant recover from, and frankly if they continue to only take one system and a dozen or so freighters a turn we will easily win this war. The MWG is making 3-4 new systems a turn and can dip into the freighter stockpiles for convoy losses. Sure seems that the “invasion” of Andro space can be happening soon? The galactic members await this momentous event. Perhaps the powers involved are waiting for newer, bigger, better, X2 ships before they invade. The GWW now has rumors from at least 3 different empires of building a larger version of the XCA, code named “XDN”. Perhaps its the delivery of these to the invasion forces that has things held up?
Once the bane of the Galactic Powers, Un-navigable space, (Red hexes) allowed the Andros almost unrestricted access throughout the MWG. For the last 10+yrs of the War one the our goals was to rid the galaxy of these unpleasant hexes. We are doing well, despite the Andro adding 10 or so a year, every years, we have gone from 256 Red hexes at the start in Y187, to 112 Red hexes in Y199.
