fuuuunnn.. Is Paul playing the ISC? or is he switching to something more dangerous?
By David Cheng (Davec) on Saturday, July 19, 2014 - 04:02 pm: Edit
DaveC of Team Council of Three Nations is in communication with CrashnBurn of Team John Paul Jons. We will probably play this the old-fashioned way, FtF.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, July 19, 2014 - 04:02 pm: Edit
My understanding is that I get to choose my ship (i.e. I don't have to play ISC) which might be a relief to me. But might cause my opponents consternations.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, July 19, 2014 - 04:10 pm: Edit
Yeah, Paul is gonna be the Playtest Andro, I think. Which makes sense, what with the name and all.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, July 19, 2014 - 05:09 pm: Edit
Yeah. I will play the Playtest Andromedan and so whether Peter is right. That is it needs a couple more points of power. (I would like a few more changes like changing the 2 TRHs to 4 TRLs but that is me trying to make it so that a few internals are not deciding the game)
By Chris Proper (Duke) on Saturday, July 19, 2014 - 05:40 pm: Edit
When it's that difficult to get a few internals they need to decide the game.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, July 20, 2014 - 07:14 am: Edit
I disagree with that opinion, but I will leave it at that.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, July 20, 2014 - 01:13 pm: Edit
Pool Tree has been updated, including swapping in Andromedan (it has a capital "A", yes?) for V_Raptor.
We have a little more than 3 weeks left for the initial pool games. If you are having trouble contacting your opponent, please let me know.
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Sunday, July 20, 2014 - 03:33 pm: Edit
Yup. A capital "A".

CrashandBurn (Wyn AUX gHbD) of Team John Paul Jons
DaveC (Hydran) of Team Council of Three Nations
This game is through 4 turns. We ended up not playing FtF after all.
My #1 is down to 10 boxes. John has dedicated significant firepower to shooting at fighters. My Ace fighter pilots have been frustrating his targeting computers. I have one ftr dead (2 Wyn HB shots at Ftrs, the second one hit), and one undamaged, at range 6 from the Wyn.
His #3 is down to 5, and his #4 is down to something like 11. No internals. There are 3 Wyn drones in flight, one of which is damaged. He cannot launch drones until imp 6.
We start turn 5 at a range of 5 hexes, him pointed D and me pointed A. We are both max speed capable.
Looks like we will have a decisive battle pass early in turn 5.
We will continue this Tuesday, July 22nd, 6:30 PM EDT.

Hey--people in the tournament!
Would anyone be offended if we extended the initial pool timeframe to have a deadline of August 18th instead of August 11th? i.e. extended by a week? Lots of people are out and about and on break and whatever, and an extra week would be handy.

I am fine with any extension you deem appropriate. I will just point out that the week you extended it to is the week of GenCon. There may (or may not) be sufficient overlap to make that not much of an extension.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, July 21, 2014 - 02:34 pm: Edit
Huh. Is anyone here going to GenCon?
By Paul Scott (The_Rock) on Monday, July 21, 2014 - 02:55 pm: Edit
Me (though I will be done with all my games before the original deadline anyway)

I'm going if anyone wants to try to meet up.

Rock v. Graven through 2 turns.

No opposition to an extension from me.

CrashandBurn (Team John Paul Jons)
DaveC (Team Council of Three Nations)
I thought I had positional & maneuver advantage on him at the start of turn 5, but he is crafty. I foolishly let him get range 2, which was silly in hindsight.
Later, His HB volley of 10 got 3 Ph1s and my last HB. It was all down hill from there. At least I got to draw blood with 4 fusions at range 1. But alas, too little too late.
All you guys playing World League here represent the elite of the SFB world community. The SFB tournament at Council of Five Nations is the last, best opportunity to play Face-to-Face in the whole world. With SFB no longer at Origins, take those savings and attend Council. Hotel rates are much cheaper.

Laszlo (KLI) defeats Grim (LDR)
Turning point in battle was when he was threatening to run me over with ESGs (up at range 2) and maul me with gats, but I tractored him at range 3.

bakija/X-Mans (GRN) vs jonbig/John Paul Jons (TFH) underway.
T1: He goes some sort of 26/27 plot (likely a lot of the second half of the turn on battery). I move 17/31 most of the turn. We close. R12 or so, he launches an enveloper. I close a little, and launch a standard. I turn off. He turns in. I get away from his enveloper, ending the turn at R2. He closes on my plasma, fires 6xP3 at it (on passive FC, as he hasn't turned on AFC yet), and ends at R1. We are pretty far apart.
T2: I move some sort of 31/24/31 plot. He moves 20/29 (again, probably battery late). I run his enveloper out to nothing while turning in at him. Late in the turn, I face him, so he launches an S and an F and turns off. I close in, get the plasma out to 6 moves, phaser the F torp up a bunch, and eat it all on my #5. The S is fake, so I take 4 damage to my #5. I turn in and chase him towards the corner. He turns and slips away, so I'm almost in his FH by the end of the turn. We end at about R9.
T3: I move 31/26/24. He moves 16/8 and cloak. Impulse 2, we get to R8 as he turns in to get me in his FH. He launches an enveloper and cloaks. I bolt an S and F and fire 4xP1 at R9 with the +1 shift. I miss with the S, hit with the F (for 7…) and roll ok on phasers for 12 damage, all of which sticks to his #6. I turn off and run away from his enveloper for the rest of the turn. He just spins around under cloak at speed 8. We end the turn far apart.
I suppose technically, I'm ahead, as I have scored 12 boxes of shield damage and he has scored 4. Yaa. Cloaks.

captainron (GBS 1b) over bakija (GRN)
T1: I launch an enveloper, he runs away and launches 3 drones.
T2: I chase him into the corner, tractoring 2 drones and shooting down the third. He gets caught in the corner, so I launch 50 plasma at him. He turns into me and announces emergency decel. I shoot his #2 up with 4xP1 at R5, HET out to 6 and knock most of his #2 off with the rest of my P1s. He shoots down my #5 with 2xOL, 2xSTD, and 7xP1, doing 3 internals, killing one of my F tubes. He weasels my plasma, killing his drones. I run away the rest of the turn. He launches 3 drones at the end of the turn.
T3: I move speed 12 all turn, he moves 10/9/10. I just run across the map. He zings me with a couple standards and launches 3 more drones.
T4: I move faster than him, launch an enveloper, and run towards the wall, away from his drones. He phasers up the enveloper and eats it for 51, closing on me. I kill 3 of his drones by the end of the turn, but get caught against the wall. We end at R9. He probably launches 3 more drones.
T5: I stop, he closes in at 9, speeding up to 13 at some point. He closes, I TAC to face him and launch 50 plasma. I shoot down some of the drones. He phasers up my plasma F and calls my bluff on the S, eating them after 6 hexes or so. The S was fake, so he takes about 7 damage. He closes. I weasel all the drones on the map. I forget to TAC on impulse 23 so that I can TAC again on 24, which I needed to do (so I could speed up to a negative speed and keep the range open a few hexes. Without TACing twice, I just run into the wall). As he closes in at speed 13, I launch an enveloper, which he eats for full, but only takes a few internals from, although his shields are a wreck. He launches a couple more drones. Impulse 32, he gets to R1. He launches a couple shuttles, I tractor his 2 drones, he blasts me with 3xOL and 6xP1 and a couple P3s, doing, like, 35 internals. I shoot back with a couple P1s, doing 5 or 6 in. I'm already dead here, but gamely, I continue.
T6: We are both stopped. Impulse 1, I weasel, he fires an OL and 3xP3 into my down shield, but due to the weasel shift, I only take 5 internals, but they kill my last 2 batteries, so no fast load F this turn. We both TAC on 2, the drones kill my weasel. His two suicide shuttles hit my weasel before it is voided by my AFC. I speed up to -4 and back up a hex, and then blast him with 6xP1 on his 5 box #1, doing a dozen internals, most of which are hull. He speeds up to 6, comes back to R1, launches a drone which I fail to kill with a P3, it hits me in the face for 12, followed by a couple OLs and more phasers, mostly gutting me.
