So, when I attach pods to a tug, I notice that when I move the tug that the pods don't follow but have to be manually moved. It also keeps a separate EAF for the Pod rather than combining it into one. Is this how it's supposed to work or is there a feature that I am missing?

By Frank Lemay (Princeton) on Tuesday, August 04, 2020 - 04:23 pm: Edit

Peter,
The pods are attached when damage is applied.
To keep the pods stationed with the tug, use the tractor option without paying any actual power.
Work around solution.

Cheers
Frank

Frank,

That's good to know, thanks.

Paul Franz,

I can not remember if I have asked this before,
I am wondering how do you launch a Plasma shotgun in the client (I see all the other Plasma types in the drop down list, just not shotgun).

By Gregory S Flusche (Vandar) on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 - 05:09 pm: Edit

I so not think it is covered as of yet.

Thanks Greg,

I might be able to launch the multiple Fs manually from the counter on the map, all on same impulse, and with different targets.

Hello Paul,

It looks like I have not played SFBOL since November 2019. At least that is the last game where I have game files saved.

I just logged-in to prepare for Sapphire 7. I am on a Mac Mini with OS 10.14.6.

At first, the SFBOL app prompted me to download and install an old Java patch. I did that. I was able to log in, but had some tech gremlins. Did not see my name in the bullpen, even though I was logged-in. I checked for updates to SFBOL, and then installed those updates. After this install, the SFBOL app crashed each time I tried to start it.

I decided to start from scratch, so I downloaded a new 4.2.24 app for Mac. Install went fine, and I can now seem to access it normally. I guess there have been changes, because I see the desktop icon for this new version is totally new.

Here is the question...
I want to load an old game file. I click "Load Game" and navigate to the directory where I have dozens of old game files. This new client does not seem to recognize my old game files at all; the menu screen is blank. Even though I can see in my Finder window that there are many files there, the most recent is from Nov 2019.

Is this a known issue, and not a bug? Should I just accept that I cannot read old game files in the new 4.2.24 client?

Thanks,
-DC

And, another question while I'm here...

Since I could not seem to load an old game, I wanted to start a new game, so I could recreate my formatting customizations. I chose start new game - Tournament.

I was able to choose a ship and a facing, but the "Start Game" button was grey. "Load Game" and "Restore Game" were select-able, but not Start Game.

Any idea why?

Thanks.

David,
Can you send me one of the files? I would like to see if I can "convert" the file to load. I know there were some versions where I had to actually create a converter and the client should upload that to the website behind the scenes.

When it comes to starting a new Tournament game by yourself, you need to login using "Authenticated Mode"/"Single Player Mode". In the Login window, it is available via the drop-down at the bottom of the window. Login in that mode and you will be able to "start" a Tournament game. Otherwise, it will wait for your opponent to join you before it will allow you to start the game.

Hello again Paul,

Game file from November 2019 sent to your email.

OK, new issue.
When I log in with Authenticated Mode, I do not see the bullpen. The window does not display at all. And, when I toggle between Users and Rooms, both are blank. But, yes, I can create a new game.

When I log in on "Server", I see the stuff I am normally able to see, like the bullpen, and active users, and rooms with active games.

Is this Authenticated vs Server login new, from my last time here a year ago? (Just FYI, it does not at all feel like it's been a year since I logged-in...)

David,
That is what "Authenticated Mode" is. It is a Single User mode that you are not online with other people but you still have access to ships and load games.

Authenticated Mode has been available for years.

For those people in the audience. I was able to load David's game without issue. So I ask him to try to load the game and click "Send Feedback" to more information sent to me. Like internal logs of errors

Shameless plug for a campaign needing an Admiral. :>)

Above & Beyond has an opening for a Kzinti Admiral.
Currently on T4[Fall Y169] so quite young.
Fleet size based on CBpv to encourage battles.
Fleet build restrictions as well so we do not see leader ships only, followers need to be built.

This is a Fog of War format.

If interested, email me in my profile.
I will send you the details for your consideration & get you up to speed if you decide to join.

Cheers
Frank

I really don't think you should have posted this five times.

Not all the people on the BBS go to all the different areas, so posting the campaign plug on a few should be ok?

Is Star Fleet Marines available on the client?

By John Smith (Johnsmith) on Thursday, June 17, 2021 - 03:18 pm: Edit

I'm using a win10 laptop. I tried to install the windows version 4.4.1 on the website, and got an error message "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have appropriate permissions to access the item". I used "run as administrator". Is there something odd going on?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, June 17, 2021 - 08:43 pm: Edit

Patrick,
Not yet. I have done some work on it. But it is not complete.

John,
I have never heard of somebody experiencing that when installing the client. Though, my guess is it is related to Anti-Virus processing the installer or installation. Try turning Anti-Virus off and re-try the installation.

Paul: That was it. Thanks. I'm terrible with thinking machines.

How do I fire weapons? I found how to give the order but can't see where to roll the attacks and have the damage applied.

Scratch that. I figured it out with a little help online from Nico. Pico? I suck at remembering online names.

New question, one we couldn't answer: How do I add special drones to a rack? I found this:

My Expendables -> Drone Packages Available -> Add

I created a "IVF-Swordfish" drone type. I can see it in the list of packages available but it doesn't show in the dropdown when I try to add one to storage or a rack.

This might be a silly question but I just re-downloaded the client for the first time in a while and the main page image of the client has a fairly nice starry-night outer space sort of background. When I start a game in the client it's... pretty plain. Is there an option for backgrounds like that?

Edit: I found the overlay utility. Can this be made to remember the overlay when you go Board-> Options -> Save current settings?

Is there a way to mark damage on a plasma torpedo and/or easily tell how much damage it will do?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, December 17, 2022 - 08:38 pm: Edit

Chad,
Overlay's are per scenario. The client got simplified to make it easier to use and less confusing.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Saturday, December 17, 2022 - 08:47 pm: Edit

Ginger,
If you right-click on the piece you can choose "Change Damage Taken". Use it that for tracking the damage to a seeking weapon.
