Ok, I have the software to create tutorials but I need ideas on what I should start with first.

The tutorials will not be interactive. They will be little little videos showing off different aspects of the client.

Movement. (Map, Game Control Arrows, and Right-Click ship items (like change facing, take back move))

Calling Impulses ("Ready", "Wait", "Thinking", "Next Imp", "Prev Imp", "Activity")

EAF (inc filling phaser caps) & Speed Plot

Launch SWs/Shuttles

The rest you'll figure out or be shown when playing.

Ok. I have created the first one. I know it is rough but I will like to have some feedback on it.

The URL is:

http://www.sfbonline.com/tutorials/StartFedComGame.mov

Note: It is a 20 Meg file so not for the dial up user.

Im rusty. Is there no way to simply load a map and ssd as a demo to figure out how to use the current client?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 - 03:48 pm: Edit

Yes. You can start it in offline mode if you wish and play with the client. Just create a new room of the type that you want to create and go to town.

So to clarify, this cant be done in online mode? You must have an opponent and their ship(s) loaded to open a room? I could swear you could under an older version.

Geoff,
You can login using the Demo mode and create new rooms as long as you don't go into a tournament room. A tournament room requires an opponent.

I'm rather surprised no-one has mentioned the Cadet's Training Manual. As it's free for DL, I can't think of a reason for the Steves to say no. Also, as the FC fleet ships are based of the cadet ships, (somewhat), it shouldn't be too hard to revise them for Cadet use. The scenarios can be set up in a dropdown window with the room name box. This can also be used to test an option a bunch of players have been asking for, a quick setup for SFB scenarios.

I've been registed with SFBOL for about a week now, but I still don't know how it works. Directions or a basic tutorial would be nice. the only tutorial i've seen is on Federation Commander, and the two clients look rather different.

Post what times you will be online.
There is a walkthrough here http://www.sfbonline.com/intro/Start.htm
