In regards an Omega Scenario for the Omega #5 cover art.

Two authors have tried (I have even made note of it in the Blogs), but have not succeeded. So I am going to list the minimal requirements that the cover indicates.

The following are "on screen"

Mæsrons:

There are four Mæsron gunboats: 1 banking to the right over the Andromedan ship, one following the first gunboat, one to the right rear of the second and seen firing, and the fourth coming from the upper right side in a hard bank to the left. This constitutes a full flotilla, and in the lower right of the screen is clearly a small PFT (single sensor channel on the centerline).

There are also the tachyon missiles coming on screen from some launching platform off to the right rear of the viewscreen. These missiles cannot have been launched by anything on screen, so they imply by their presence another Mæsron unit. Further, their relatively tight grouping implies a single launching unit, and there are only five Mæsron ships that are able to launch tachyon missiles fast enough to have three in such a tight grouping: A Mæsron Bombardment Cruiser (OR2.12) could do it in any single turn; a Mæsron Fire Support Cruiser (OR2.6), Mæsron Missile Scout (OR2.5), or Mæsron Missile PF could manage it over a turn break; a Mæsron Dreadnought (OR2.7) or a Mæsron Space Control Ship (OR2.19) could also manage it over a turn break, but in both their cases there would likely have been a fourth tachyon missile. Further the Space Control Ship would bring a lot of other assets that would further confuse the situation (fighters and more gunboats). A Mæsron Missile PF would require some unit to be present that could have brought a fifth gunboat on a mechlink in any case as the PFT can only operate four. The most obvious ship would be the bombardment cruiser, but the scenario could use a DN and just assume damage (i.e., allow it to be in the battle and it might have launched two missiles and two missiles, but it lost one of its missile racks by the time the "snapshot" was taken). The other option would be something odd in a Mæsron fighter squadron that is off screen.

The upshot is that there MUST be at least one Mæsron unit that is off screen and it MUST be able to account for the missile launch.

Koligahr:

There are six Koligahr gunboats on screen. Three are approaching from the Andromedan's Left rear, and three from its right rear (the sixth one is mostly covered by the yellow bar but you can see it sticking up beside the Omega Symbol). Between the two groups is a Koligahr small Gunboat Tender (six bubbles, two sensor dishes). As the Koligahr PFT only operates five PFs, the sixth PF has to be accounted for to some Koligahr unit that is off screen. Could be almost anything, even a survivor from a ground base that on the moon/asteroid/airless planet in the background. But it might have been on a ship able to operate at least one small PF.

Andromedan:

There is only one Andromedan on screen. This ship is without question a Dominator hull. Further, it clearly has four Tractor-Repulsor beams, so it cannot be a variant with less than four.

Terrain:

Either a planet with no atmosphere, moon, or large asteroid must be present.

Beyond that, creating an interesting reason for the battle, interesting special rules, and adding forces (you cannot delete any of the minimal requirements) and keeping in mind the picture is a snapshot of an on going battle so you are not required to say anyone was damaged before the scenario began. Any satellite ships are possible (within the limits of the Dominator), it is possible for their to be more Andromedans (even an Andromedan base that is under attack as one of the posters tried to do). The above is just the minimums of what HAS to be present. Obviously you could go wild and blow the scenario up to something so huge no one would ever play it, so try to keep it small and interesting but have the required units (the ones that HAVE to be there). Maybe the Koligahr had a base and were attacked by the Andromedans and the Mæsrons have arrived to help, maybe the Koligahr are arriving to help the Mæsrons, maybe it was a joint squadron. Maybe the Andromedans attacked them, maybe they attacked the Andromedans. Keep an eye on the history and background (if you want it to be near the attack to push the Andromedans out of RYN space, then do not have scout gunboats in the forces, if you want it to be an Andromedan found after the Andromedans were thought wiped out, maybe scout gunboats are in service in that year).

But as long as you get at least the minimums you are at a start point.

I have everything from this topic. The only question is if someone wants to take a crack at writing the scenario for the cover, in which case some of the data in the fourth missive up from this one might be useful.

Topic is closed. The information for the scenario remains.
