Hi again.

In the previous thread on these boards, I have referred to possible late fighter designs for the Federal Republic, including examples of heavy fighters and bombers.

While bombers, of course, would only be for use by the likes of Aurora III itself and the other major members, new fighter craft - not least, potential heavy fighters - might well do with new carriers to handle them. And at the moment, the FRA has only one carrier design, anyway...

So, while we don't have any war cruisers to extrapolate from, we do have larger sips which serve in appropriate eras, such as the BC and the DN. It might make sense for the Aurorans to modify pre-existing BCs to serve as fleet carriers, rather than go out and cook up a whole new design - not least due to the constraints on the Auroran economy by the late Y180s.

Historical note: there are two main eras where new fighters and carriers would be viable - the era from Y188-Y194 (between the tail end of the Second Great War, and the first major attack by the Andros on the FRA) and Y204 on wards (after the Andros were defeated, and the carrier doctrine would be more likely to come into vogue). Between these two eras, the psychological impact caused by the Andromedan attacks would have prevented the development of new carriers and fighters at least until the Invasions were over and done with.

Also, if the idea of the FRA developing heavy fighters is accepted, there would be at least 4 useful ship types possible - a CVA and SCS based on the DN, and a BCV and BCS based on the BC.

Sound reasonable?

All right.

With Omega 5 relased, we have an SSD of a conjectural FRA Space Control Ship - albeit one which has slots for (also conjectural) gunboats, as opposed to heavy fighters.

However, if one was to take said SSD, and convert it into a CVA, or perhaps a 'Third Way'-esque SCS (with heavy fighters) what would the resulting ship look like?

I guess there would need to be an idea of what an FRA heavy fighter might look like in the first place, before the SCS could be thrashed out - or, perhaps one could go with a generic kind of setup that Fed heavy-fighter carriers have, which is not necessarily tied to whether the heavy fighter in question is an F-111 or A-20.
