The ADD system has been described at various times as resembling a shotgun and at times as a hyper-kinetic round. (Not exact quotes, my rules are at the FLGS.)

Would an early (MY?) ADD system be considered that is more the 'shotgun' concept.  As such;

- It is less efficient (-1 to the existing ADD chart).

- It cannot load type VI drones.

- It cannot fire in two consecutive impulses.

  This way lies madness.

Cannot carry type-VI drones I might be able to fudge, the rest of it is not a good direction to go in.

More like simply saying it can't launch drones, and has a range of 2, or 1.

(By the way, sorry for putting this in the wrong area, the idea was a spin off from the MY fighter topic...)

I can accept that. It's not that 'on fire' an idea, really.

Now, if you want to hear about my Frozonian Empire idea and the massive hyperspace ice cream cone launcher, *that*, now *that* is an idea before it's time!

Probably limiting it to "fires every other impulse" would be the best way to build a watered down ADD.

But the Middle Years ADD needs to be useful enough for the Aurorans to convert into the Short-Range Cannon - would this still be an issue if the changes you propose are made?

I think the best MY anti-drone defense is speed 9 (and later 13).

  E-racks can work too.

I wonder how much you gain because the drones arn't moving at 32 but rather 12 and should we look to reduce the firepower of the ADD by that amount?

SVC has said that the only item he's willing to accept is not using type VI drones. The rest is moot to discuss, it appears.
It really isn't enough of a rule or system that I think it needs developed for that small a change.

I proposed an EY/MY ADG (anti-drone gun) long, long ago. Was to go into the playtest file for Y1. Dunno what happened to it.

IIRC, it was range 1-2, roughly the same to-hit and fired every other impulse.

Phased out of service once the Y125-130 ships came into service as their higher speeds made the sp-8/12 drones they faced less of a thrat.

Heck, in Y90, sp-8/12 drones aren't much of a threat, outside of tractor range

There already is a Middle Years ADD system: the Type-E drone rack.

SPP has already stated more than once that ADD racks on ships produced prior to the introduction of the ADD system (Y150?) are replaced with type-E drone racks.

In some ways, the E-rack is better than an ADD.

In some ways.

  Mike, when was that stated.

I have not seen any refits on SSD's or in the R rules that state that.
