Transporter Artillery doesn't use a gun of any kind. It is fired/launched/delivered using a transporter. Even a trans-howitzer is a ground vehicle that uses a small transporter; see (D15.826).

What is the rate of fire for a trans-howitzer? Is it once per turn or once per impulse? I can't find the answer to this. The draft PFGL have two transporters right now; is this better or worse than a TH?

It's not as bad as people who spell "turret" with an "n", though.

SPP has identified the solution; use G25.3. I would suggest, though, that the "Ground Assault PF Leader" have the ability to "dump" its storage of armed trans-artillery ammunition, so that it doesn't have to spend a great deal of time clearing for liftoff.

SPP. It should be noted that that Ordnance is a clipped variant of Ordinance, per Webster, Random House, and American Heritage. So we're not wrong so much as 400 years behind the times...

John Wyszynski:

Ground combat is at the end of the turn, and that would be when a Transhowitzer would operate. It would fire a single shot.

Nikolaus Athas:

Well, I did not use "fired" because that would have broken up the pattern of the "shot" you see.

I was trying to use both words (Ordinance and Ordnance) twice.

Although the use of "fired" would have been a nice added "double entendre" in the statement I will concede.

SPP:

Transporter Artillery is used impulse step 6B7, not the Final Activity Phase; see (E20.21). (D15.826) does not indicate that a transhowitzer works any differently.

As (E21.111) says that a max of one round per side per GCL per impulse, my question comes back to can a transhowitzer fire more than once per turn?

ADDED: It's not that I didn't like the answer. It was that appeared to based on an incorrect assumption about when trans artillery is used.

Well I completed the updating of the Ground Assault Gunboat Leaders (aka PFGL). I also completed the Fighter Support Gunboats.

Proposed PFGL rule on trans-artillery:

Each PFGL is equipped to provide fire support to ground operation using transport artillery (E20.0). A PFGL may use its transporters to delivery transporter artillery rounds while on the ground only; the transporters cannot perform this function while in space. A PFGL can only used against targets in the same GCL as itself. The cargo box on each PFGL is used to hold 25 rounds of shells. [This rule would be an exception to (E20.322).]

At the top of the web page there is now a link to download all of the gunboats in either ZIP or TAR format.

EDIT: Oops, some of the fighter support gunboats didn't get moved from the working directory. I will have to fix that later today.

You might want to make a note: The Kzinti Fighter Support Gunboat cannot reload its drone rack during an SFB scenario, even though it carries spare drones to reload fighters. (The drone rack is not in a convenient location for servicing by the boat's crew.)
