This is an unbaked plan around the concept of a space hornet. Picture a hive monster moving through space armed with dozens of hornets, or another way would be to picture a Hydran LE with a full load of Mega-Stingers.
The Hive would hold some sort of nasty Queen hornet that provides some sort of command rating and scout capability. The older the queen, the older the hive, the more special sensors, the more power and the more stingers.
That’s all I’ve got so far. Anyone else want to flesh things out?

Well is it a 2-player scenario, or a 1-player scenario with the Hornets following the monster from Mod J (forgot name right now...)

(SM12.0) STARSWARM?
Those fighter/monsters had no carrier and were armed with a pair of Ph-3 and a rechargable PL-D. I like the rechargable PL-D idea, but I'm also looking for more crunch. Perhaps a speed 30 St-1 (2xFus, 1xPh-3) with a rechargable PL-Db launcher replacing the gatling? Maybe add in a suicide charge if they reach your hex?
My thinking is this would be a scenario that could be played with 1-2 people.

I liked that line in the Increadible Hulk...You don't want to make me hungry.
Maybe you could have a point where the wasps become angry and attack in a much more destructive manner (Kamakazi wasps????) so you get a period where the ship player is really under the clock?

A burst of speed 40 movement for 8 impulses once / turn?

If you run with the hornet analogy, the hive would initially be a minor annoyance. An occasional hornet would come around and harass the civilians. The civilians get annoyed and call in the military, which "pokes" the hive. And that's when all hell breaks loose...
I'm picturing a scenario where there are hornets deploying at a regular rate, and basically an endless supply of them until the hive is destroyed. So you have to go in and hit the hive, but you don't want to get too close to the hornets, or you get "stung".

Have you looked at the Brantethon (sp?) from Omega? The DiLithium sheep? IIRC there are also space boars and something in module K?
And of course, a hive MIGHT be subject to "Moon-Em-More over Libeeyah" kinds of fighter/ pf sweeps just to keep thier numbers down?

Not to mention that the Hivers, a race in Omega who use ships which tend to be two sizes smaller than the equivalent hulls of other races (their FF is the size of a fighter, and their DD a PF, for example) happen to be a species of dog-sized bumblebees, with Queens they are fanatically loyal to...
Also, Alunda (space whales) have remora-like parasites which feed upon them - and the Mirn, a race in Omega, use both creatures as part of their space fleets (Alunda as starships, Remorae as fighter craft) - plus there is the aforementioned Branthodon faction, who use cloned and heavily-lobotomised space dragons as their 'starships'.
If you are looking for something unique, why not base the weapon systems on something from either Omega or the Cloud?
You could go with fighters which look more like those operated from Maghadim carriers, or perhaps the aforementioned Remorae...

I don't think we need to involve Omega-tech ideas (I think he wants it to be usable by everyone, so vanilla Alpha tech should be used).
BUT, that being said, we could probably incorporate the Hiver Barb rules as a monster. They get 4-6 "power" per turn to use as they see fit:
1) extra speed
2) charge Stinger Torpedo (think 2-power disurptor)
3) forgot what else.
So if this was a 1-player monster scenario, you'd have to give priorities of what the Hornet would do (ie range5 fire plasmaD, 1power; fire P3, 1/2power; HET, 1/2power; range>12, EM 1/2power; etc)
