Hi.
One thing I like about Module C5 is how varied the support facilities and units are for the various Magellanic Powers - the Eneen and Baduvai have a number of support units in common mainly due to one side reverse-engineering samples from the other, while the Maghadim are very different in their base and support unit designs...
...and who knows what the Yrol and Chomak have to offer?
In this case, I wanted to refer to a specific type of ship - the Eneen Monitor (MR3.9) - and use it as an example for what we might one day see in the Omega Octant.
The Eneen Monitor is built on the Light Cruiser hull, with added bulk in the carapace, improved shielding, and an increased weapons load, but with a heavier movement cost.
The Eneen built it because the CL had been superseded in fleet actions by the more powerful (and more conducive to their new side-firing doctrine) New Light Cruiser, and wanted to make the most out of the remaining CL hulls - so used these Monitors for base or colony defence.
So, in an Omega Octant filled with empires who share the Magellanic knack of not sharing as much common designs as the Alpha powers do, perhaps Omega Monitors look something similar?
When the time comes for the Omega powers to introduce speed-31 "war" designs, in the manner the Eneen did, perhaps some of the older hulls were modified to better support the defence of the various empires.
Indeed, at the time most empires introduced this type of ship, they were either largely isolated from their neighbours in the course of the Invasions, or were still in the process of expanding beyind their home provinces in the Seventh Cycle.
And thus, while sending their new ships to the front lines, and using some of their older hulls for new variants (such as the Trobron DCS) perhaps other hulls were being turned into Omega Monitors?
