From a lost episode of Speed Racer, an interesting conversation takes place

{For those of you under the age of 35, you'll be asking yourself " what the heck is he babbling about?" for those others that have seen the old Speed Racer TV cartoon" ...enjoy! :)

Here is it is :)

Captain Terror: "Its good to see you again Snake", "Is your body fully recovered from the crash you were involved in during the Alpine Race?" " I want you to enter our team in the World League Race, That race will feature some of the best drivers in the entire world." " I hear that scoundrel Cruncher Block has entered a team, and a few drivers are reported cousins of Team Racer" "The competition will be fierce Snake"

Snake Oiler: "It is, sir " , " That nitrous-oxide explosion in my car was many, many years ago" , " That was then- This is now!" "I'm up to the task of leading your team", " My car has been rebuilt" , " I want to prove to the World, what a fabulous driver I still am!"

Captain Terror: " Great to hear your still confident Snake", "And what of the rather disturbing reports of your recent Personality Disorder from the asylum Snake?","You were just released less than a month, ago!", " Remember Snake, you can't run from yourself"

{several anxious moments}

Captain Terror: "Snake", "I see you have new recruits for the Car Acrobatic Team" " Introduce them"

Snake Oiler: { After a moment of self-reflection}
"My body and Mind remain strong,!" " Captain Terror....and other Car Acrobats!", "Let me introduce these brave drivers" , "Nomad~!", "He is a tremendous competitor", "capable of daredevil driving and skillful handling in the turns". " Nomad favors cars with powerful engines"

Captain Terror: " Snake who is that tall fellow behind him?" " His eyes have not left mine since this meeting started" , "Is he worthy to join our team?"

Snake Oiler: "Ahhhhh" "His name is Romwe" . "He is one of the best drivers on the circuit." " Like myself, he knows no fear! " Romwe favors the smaller, more manuverable cars" , " Romwe is ruthless up close, and yields nothing!"
" I've seen him do some amazing things,in un-modified cars!" , " And Nomad, is one of the most aggressive drivers today!" " Together, We will be lead your team to victory"

Captain Terror: "Well Snake, have our mechanics and engineers begin our special modifications to their cars" (Captain Terror smiles)

Captain Terror: (Captain Terror raises his hands ~ yells)" We will be Victorious" " Start your engines!"

We need a minimum of 12 teams to make things work. We currently have enough people for exactly 10 teams. So we need some more people to jump on board.

Could the following two things happen:

A) People who have a team with a spot open pick someone for your team off the Free Agent list.

B) Each team should have a single person designated as "Captain". The only thing the Captian is for is the following. Send me an e-mail (with "world league" in the subject line) that has, for each player on your team:

1. Full name
2. SFBOL handle/screen name
3. valid e-mail address
4. ship choice, including option mounts

The sooner, the better. Thanks!

We still need an email to go out right? Peter, maybe you sould shoot Monster an email - not sure he's following this thread.

By Peter D Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, February 06, 2009 - 12:37 pm: Edit

We do. Who is in charge of that? Monster? Do we know his e-mail?

We will probably see Team Imperial Guard again, in some form or other. More news soon.

There was a comment last year about ship selection.

Is there or was there at some point in the past a guideline about not having duplicate ships on a team?

If there are such guidelines, let's please publicize them now before people start committing to teams & ships.

-DC

By Peter D Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, February 06, 2009 - 06:24 pm: Edit

There is no such guideline.

You can have the All Selt Team, should you so inclined.

There was discussion about teams of all the same ship resulting in reliable civil war match ups, but ya know, I suspect we can deal. As noted in the rules, I'll try to avoid civil war match ups if possible, but if not, we'll survive.

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Friday, February 06, 2009 - 06:26 pm: Edit

David. WL Teams have always (AFAIK) required different ships. Thats why Team Romulan will be composed of;
TKE
TFH
TKR

I do have one question.
Can we use the ADB approved, (not the cooked up LMC/Omega) TC's?

If so I would like to propose Team Playtest as taking applications:)

By Ken Lin (Old_School) on Friday, February 06, 2009 - 06:34 pm: Edit

Ken, I think you are misremembering. Last year's champs, Yellow Alert, was made of 2 Sharks and a Lyran.

It was never a hard and fast rule that different ships be chosen. The past 2 WLs I gently *encouraged* teams to have different ships because it is better for avoiding Civil Wars. That is the only reason.

That isn't in the rules I got or posted. If you wanna be Team Seltorian, you can be Team Seltorian.

Not the playtest ones. Just the currently sanctioned one.

>>If so I would like to propose Team Playtest as taking applications>>

Heh. Sadly, not allowed by the rules as posted.

Team Imperial Guard will be held in reserve this year.

Instead, we offer a genuine, all-local TEAM SWA:
* John Rigley (CrashnBurn)
* Travis Cunero (Maravrin), the SUNY-Albany college guy some of you met at this past year's Council of Five Nations
* Dave Cheng (DaveC)

ROAR!
