That should read; "swapping from ship control to ATG".

mjc; Tame Boar and Wild Boar drones are launch modes for ATGs, but they are still ATGs. Why, if they do not require an extra sensor channel, would an ATG, even if it was under control of a ship, still require an extra sensor channel?
This truly baffles me

Type III frames are limited availability and ATG is restrticted availability (FD10.6). Type-III drones include a special form of ATG, which doesn't require outside guidance; type-III can use tame boar and Type-IIIXX uses wild boar(FD5.25), which are forms of ballistic targeting.
The Type-IIIs can be launched on a ballistic course then search for a target. A standard drone can be launched ballistic course but can't search for a target. The ATG drone in a way is an intermediate type, which requires guidance to within 8 hexes then can be releases to search for a target. If every drone could use type-III targeting it would change the game balance as the number of drones wouldn't be limited by the number of control channels. The guidance options tied to availability provides balance with interesting battle dynamics (my opinion).

Joseph, quite right. But the way mjc made it sound it was if all ATGs required an extra sensor channel for a speed change. This is what truly has driven me nuts from the inception of this concept

No, just that when the ATG drone is being guided by the controlling ship ( eg outside of R8 ) then the second drone control channel is needed to control the speed adjustments otherwise it just jumps up to full speed as best it can. I wasn't trying to change the nature of drones that already exist in the game, just allow seahorse drones to be part of the game.

I think all you really have to do is bump up the BPV cost.

One would think so but at a certain point a Z-1 or an F4 gets to be more useful and cheaper.
A cheap drone that has drawbacks isn't going to simply be overlooked like a thoroughly expensive drone.

Restrict the YIS date. That should do it.

mjc; have you submitted this yet?
