Andy,
I will extend the tournament then... what is the maximum playrate that people want? one game per week?

Tournament rules updated to Rev 6... sigh.... Hopefully it's about complete. The good news is that I'm hoping not to have any revs or certainly not that many revs for the next OLT

Well, based on all the various tournaments I have seen, expecting people to play more than a game every other week is like expecting monkeys to do calculus. Really, about a game a month seems as reliable as most folks seem to be. Personally, I could probably pull off about a game every other week, but then RATs and whatever fit in there too and take up some of those slots.

OK... I've extended it again to one game per month...
actually that's not too bad.
I'm not bumping the rev level again though... ;)

Boo Souldra :p hehe np, just wanted to show their uberness
ok so then Fed(it does have a g-rack right?)
and playtest Vudar(whats the status on IPG use? Can I destroy drones or use ECM?)
By Barry Kirk (Barrykirk) on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 11:48 pm: Edit |
There will be a day when the Souldra are introduced. But that day is not today...
Seriously, I'd like to use the OLT to fine tune the ships out there and get some playtest time with them.
If I put too many ships out at once... It would become unmanageable.
There are two fed ships in the tournament.
The standard old plain vanila fed which is standard non playtest and the fast fed which is a playtest fed with a g rack.
Everyone in the tournament should pick two ships. One of them is playtest and the other is non playtest.
That way, there are an identical number of playtest and non playtest ships and every game in the tournament will be a playtest ship versus a nonplaytest ship.
If we had playtest ships fighting playtest ships, we would only know their relative strengths against each other and not their strength against known quantities.
Hopefully, we will be able to take the playtest label off of some of these ships.

The Souldra are going to be a supreme bitch to get up on to the client. But what an addition they will be.
By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Thursday, October 29, 2009 - 03:35 pm: Edit |
Client already supports them, not sure why people think they are an issue
By Barry Kirk (Barrykirk) on Thursday, October 29, 2009 - 08:55 pm: Edit |
Peter,
I've heard rumors that true hidden movement is supported. However, as for the dark matter damage procedure. That isn't implemented as far as I know.
Bneus,
The Vudar will be able to use their IPG for all of it's functionality including generating ECM.
Look at the OLT rules.

Ah!! ok!! Ill take the Vanilla, Photon, all 1's, boat.
and the Vudar
We have played the Souldra twice in the Void War campaign.
1st was a single CA vs a full (1/2CR) battle fleet...I think it managed to cripple 1 destroyer size ship, but died easily.
2nd was something like CL,DD,FF Souldra vs BC plus lots of DW and small Lyran escorts , at least 2x bpv value of Lyrans vs Souldra . They we're finally destroyed by subsequent ESG dives, but they put the BC&1DW on ice for at least 2 turns.
IMO they should be weaker vs lots of drones or big plasma, cause running from them makes the turn and expose more shields...vs DF they rule cause all they have is #1,#2 or #6 sheild boosted , then they launch lots of str 10 torps every 2 turns that take like 30+ points to stop each

Barry, is this an official tournament? (I certainly hope so as I would like to see the results in the next Captain's Log!) You may wish to contact me to have the information added here: Master Tournament Deadline/Rules Folder. My email address is in my profile.
By Peter D Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, November 06, 2009 - 04:58 pm: Edit |
Which begs the question--what makes a tournament an official tournament? This tournament is using all sorts of totally unplaytested ships (as the whole point is to playtest them and see what happens...) and using a kooky format. But I suspect that if all that needs to happen for it to be stamped "official" is for someone to stamp it "official", then that's the way to go!
By Barry Kirk (Barrykirk) on Friday, November 06, 2009 - 08:33 pm: Edit |
Jean,
I didn't know that it was possible to make this an official tournament. I will look into what is needed for this to be an official tournament.
Certainly, the idea for this tournament is that every battle will have a playtest ship pitted against a standard accepted ship.
By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Saturday, November 07, 2009 - 12:29 pm: Edit |
Not sure If I want in or not. I'll have to take a look at what ships are available to see if I can find something interesting.
By Brook J. Villa (Brookie) on Saturday, November 07, 2009 - 06:15 pm: Edit |
I know it's a lot to ask. But I really know nothing(more like can't remember) about the rules for many of these ships. Is there any way they can be posted in this BBS folder? It would probably make the tourney go smoother if people could just come on the BBS and read before their match.
By Barry Kirk (Barrykirk) on Sunday, November 08, 2009 - 09:58 am: Edit |
Brook... I will ask Steve Petrick about this. Until then, I don't think I have permission to publish this.
Having said that, I wrote some strategy guides which are publically available, I will provide links here.

Note that if your facing any of the LMC ships you can get a lot out of the Eneen guide since it covers the LMC shielding system, Sensor/Scanner suites, and Laser/Bank system.
