I just wanted to see what such a thing might look like. (But limit it to the Y2C era)

Y2C Photon Plasma

Federation non-X units armed with standard Photons have the option of firing Photon Plasma Torpedoes (seeking weapon). The torpedo is armed using Photon overload cost in warp power, but over a three turn period (2+2+4). When fired, the Photon Plasma moves and acts in all ways like a standard plasma torpedo. Use the following warhead table:

TypeRange 0-56-1011-1213-141516-18192021-23242526-282930
Photon3232282420161612841000

Photon Plasmas cannot be fired as Enveloping or Shotgun, but can be fired with a Proximity fuse. There is no change in the above arming cost, but when the torpedo enters the hex adjacent to the target hex it explodes, causing half warhead damage to the target (rounded down after accounting for phaser damage). Proximity detonation is not affected by EW.

Or maybe the Prox is affected by EW as per regular seeking weapon rules.

So a cruiser could fire FOUR S torp equivalents?

Good point, MCG. Perhaps knock the warhead in half. Guaranteed hit offset by the possibility of being shot down.

New table:
