Basically, the BC and DN should have charged in together with the CL hanging back, this is a case of pick your poison...

Yep, if they all could have just agreed to either plan, they probably would have done a lot better. Instead, they gave the base nice clean shots on Turn 1 Impulse 25 and again on Turn 2 Impulse 1, with little to show in return.

We're going to set up another Hydran base defense next time (none of us have a ton of base experience), except we're changing the attackers to Klingon instead of Lyran. Will be exact same OOB for the Hydrans, and instead of Lyran DN/BC/CL, attackers will be Klingon C8/D7/D5

Still Y175, so all the refits for the Klingons, and speed 20 drones. We're also rearranging the teams.

Expect another battle report for this in a month or two (hopefully).

We played a game of Multi ship tournament Star Fleet Battles.

Neonpico took command of a Lord Marshall and a Paravian TCC of his own design. I had seen it before but never coupled with Hydran and FRAX weapons.

The battle begins at range 30 an annoying Planet is at the center of the map a standard sfb tournament map.

My side was a WYB Auxillary Battlecruiser and an ISC tournament Ship. My wingman took a Federation TCC.

The Paravian launches 5 quantum wave torpedoes at out foremost ship. These are standard QWT with 7 warhead on launch.

I pointed out to my teammate that the QWTs on standard load wouldn't even cause internals. I think he was left with the feeling the Paravian ship was overpowered but that was mostly due to a lack of time on our part.

We just didn't have a very good scenario in mind. We wanted to use tournament rules but then we chose to add a planet. It broke a half dozen of my drones lock on due to poor planning on my part. I tried passing six drones to the Federation TCC thinking it could control my wyn drones and I could launch a full second wave of drones and a partial third wave. I was informed that the Federation TCC we were using didn't have a Type G drone rack. So it only gets half it's sensor rating in control channels. It spoiled one of my best strategies.

In the end my drones didn't get any hits and most of the enemy ships still had phaser 1s to fire offensively.

We agreed to make the map fixed instead of floating when it became obvious on turn 1 that they wanted a longer range action.

I wasn't used to playing the pen and paper version of the game but we particularly liked damage allocation.

One thing is certain rolling the 2d6 pairs by hand creates suspense and is fun. SFBOL does damage allocation much faster and easier but the suspense doesn't build like in face to face. That's not really a complaint about SFBOL it saves alot of time doing it the online way.

We've been spoiled playing the game online my face to face skills need work.

We finally got to overload range but my WYN Aux was strick amidships with quantum wave torpedoes and my ship was burning and streaming atmosphere. I fired with two range 4 hellbores rolling a 4 and 11. After reinforcement I only netted a handful of internal damage against the TLM. Fpur impulses later my federation ally finally got off the Lord Marshalls down shield with two photons and 4
2 Phaser 1s. That had the desired effect and the TLM was nearly stripped of phasers only it's LS gatling phaser survived the volley. But range two fire from the stingers hit the Federation ship hard for 74 damage. Trouble is we ran out of daylight and had to head home.

I would play sfb with these guys again it's just got Tobe a better scenario that we can get emotionally invested in in ways the game we just played didn't.

It was very satisfying and we had a great session and Learned alot. They went fast when I plotted slow speeds and we learned that Paravians make great allies. They have a powerful rapid fire long range sniping weapon. I know they can be defeated because they lack the crunch of many empires.

I play SFBOL all the time but this is the first big face to face battle I've had since high school.

I want to thank Greg,Matt,Darin and Donal for a fun afternoon. They humored me but I won't ask it of them again until we get a better scenario idea.

It seems like we must have had more success than we realized when we played SFB. Now our friend Darin wants to play a tournament SFB game.

We are playing ATC vs Klingon in Cottage Grove, Oregon around 10:30 this morning.

If we play our cards right we might attract Darin back to the game for online play as well. Its my hope anyway.

Darin whooped my Tholian hide up.

I cast web well earlier than I should and gave the Klingon a range 2 shot on my number 4. It knocked out my right snare generator and several power hits and 3 phasers.

I limped a few hexes away before the turn ended and the klingon got his weapons back.

I was limited to speed 15 because of battle damage. The klingon launched two type one fast drones. I intercept one with an 18 warhead suicide shuttle but the other one gets through and I think I lost 3 more phasers from the rear and half dozen power hits.

The Klingon gets r4 on me and blasts another volley of 43 into my number 3.

My objective was to teach him to play the game and in that regard it was a success but for my meta goal of having him join the illustrious ranks of SFB online he resisted me the way the Federation resisted the Borg at Wolf 359.

But I can assure you his resistance will in the end prove futile.
