We've had ideas similar to this before.
The better you can set it up in concrete 'rules" format" the better off you are.
The idea we already had was setting up defenses such that a system takes a free hit before getting destroued in earnest (sort of the way a SFG takes damage)
We also have ASIF systems that intercept damage and keep it from, mpenetrating without worrying so much where it's going.

I have made a decision about my Drogue Bay Rule. Ships are typically outfitted with two drogue bays max and some smaller ships will have only one.
They come equipped with a Decoy Drogue and a Sensor Drogue. In the case where the is only one drogue it is a Decoy Drogue. This is what is in the bays if NO CHANGE IS MADE. Of course players are free to exchange thier drogues for other types paying any added cost if needed with Commanders Options.
The alternative is to not equipe the bays and allow Drogues for these bays to be purchaced as part of force, increasing the ships BPV (and commanders options available)by 14 points. Additional cost for better drogues would then come from commanders options.

Loren,
What kind of drogue are thinking of as this is for an X2 ship?

Same drogues just that X2 ships have a small deticated bay for them. You cannot ever operate a shuttle from one as they are too small for such operations.

Just for kicks and using some spare parts, I built a "for fun" XCA mini.
Federation X2CA USS Manchester
The SSD is this one:
R2.?? Federation XCA
Thought it was a fun looking one, and I always sort of envisioned it with a bit of a blocky hull shape.

Wow, Mike! That definitely qualifies as "different." How did you build that?

Mike's good.

Thanks! The mini was made from a cut down tug saucer, the hull from some old Kzinti mini, a pair of spare engines, and some styrene. It has a very low, narrow profile and boxy frame to make it "stealthier" looking. It was fun to build. I may build one of Loren's, too; I like the way his design looks.

Yeah, Mike, mine would be pretty boring right now; looks pretty much like any other Constitution Class. The phaser banks would be different though. I'm taking a page out of Loren's book (surprise) and making the two rear Ph-6s RH arc, mounted in the aft ventral arch under the shuttle bay. I'm doing two banks of four Ph-5s in the saucer, mounted at about 10:30 and 1:30 with FA+L and FA+R arcs respectively.
Also there would be 4 large modular cargo doors flushed dorsally on the rear hull for the X-Ship Option Bays. They're situated forward of the shuttle bay for operational access (thanks for suggesting that, Loren). I think the warp pylons would have to be angled like the CX's to allow for this configuration. I'm still trying to figure out how to disperse the Type-X drone rack cells, but they'll probably be evenly spread around the saucer.
I don't know how far along the class names have gone for the Consitution Class but for now my working draft is Constitution II Class XCA (NCC-1790). That's assuming the USS Constitution (NCC-1700) was immolated by X2's time.
It's a shame I can't do the quality work you do, Mike . . .
On a side note, I noticed in the latest starship registry, SVC removed NCC-1701A so I'm going to presume that any further USS Enterprise in SFB won't use the -1701 series. NCC-1791 anyone? So let's see, 10 ships: Constitution, Enterprise, Intrepid, Republic, Defiant, Excalibur, Exeter, Constellation, Potemkin, and Hood.

Hmmm, well, with some tweaking you could have a pretty nifty looking ship. Figure modify the saucer to have those phaser banks, and scribe in the cargo bays on the aft hull. Angle the engine supports (done that several times already), maybe fiddle with the engines a bit to make them look a little different, and there you go. You could also thicken the saucer some to simulate the increased internals.
