****I think you should also make a rule that you must have a minimum 3 ships, maximum 4 ships, just in case people go for some very silly choices. ****
I don't think it's possible to build anything resembling an effective force on 325 BPV using only DD or DW hulls and exceed 4 ships. Unless you plan on slapping Poor crews on everything. (Go ahead! I won't object!)
I did have one experimental build with only 2 ships, a DWV and a DWA (Carrier and Escort) which came to 300 BPV with a full fighter complement (7 ST-2, 2 ST-H, 1 ST-E), but sadly, the YIS for the carrier is Y177.

I bet any group consisting of carrier and escort is going to have trouble getting 3 much less 4 ships if it carries very many fighters or there drone fighters. You could find Y180 puts your squadron over the limit when you have paid all the drone speed costs.

Since when? The Peladine are still in my library... admittedly these are the "old" ships from Jessica's site & Stellar Shadows 1, not the (assumedly) revised ones from the upcoming/new module...
By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 06:52 pm: Edit |
I don't really think you need a rule limiting the squadron to 3-4 ships. BPV ought to take care of that. And if someone *does* want to bring a DWV+DWE+fighters, let 'em...
By John M Ledbetter (Daltwisney) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 06:58 pm: Edit |
I also briefly considered the Andros, but the fact that you have a choice of 4 ships (1 of which is a Cargo Ship, and 1 of which is a Commando Ship), plus the complete lack of DisDevs in the Destroyer class made them unappealing. Cobra-Cobra-Eel or Cobra-Cobra-Cobra anyone? (Terminator has a YIS of 184 )

I'm looking at a squadron of Tholian DD's but the options seam to limit my selections to 4 DD's and how many will have disruptors and how many will have photons. I can take a mix of 4 DD/DDP's but if I substitute a DDS I'm 5 over or 75 under if it replaces two DD/DDP's. The DDV is not available til Y176 and without it the DDE is unavailable but I may wait on the years to advance. I still think a force of 4 DD's with 16 ph 1's, 8 Disr rg 22 or photons, and 8 ph 3's may serve well.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 07:21 pm: Edit |
Yeah 4xThol DD could be fun. At the moment Im thinking Vudar and Jindarian as something new for myself.
Also thinking 3xRom SKA could be fun. Move at 26 and then cloak !!
By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 07:29 pm: Edit |
...Move at 26 and then cloak, he says.
Not played Roms much eh?
No offense, but cloaking at that high a speed is begging to have a lock retained when you fade out. ;)

Might give me a chance to pinwheel in some hold the fort scenarios.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 07:31 pm: Edit |
Sure, if you are going to cloak right next to the enemy. The point is, at 26 you are moving fast away from them, then when you have some range you cloak and all those nasty seekers disappear.

Its a very recent change to the library but the peladine are nowhere to be found.
There are Paravians but no Pels anymore.
By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 07:42 pm: Edit |
Hunh. Well that would suck if my campaign were still running and the Peladine were still in play.
Fortunately I have all the DEFs in my library...
By John M Ledbetter (Daltwisney) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 07:45 pm: Edit |
They had a play-test module available at Origins for the Peladine, so it is likely that the files were pulled to accommodate the 3 month delay from publishing to availability. A little weird in this case, since a number of the ships have been around (unofficially) for years, but policy is policy.
By Dale McKee (Brigman) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 07:48 pm: Edit |
Then policy is stupid. Some people are probably involved in games with the Peladine, and now the SSDs are missing from the library.
Won't effect those with copies already, but it would stink to be unable to find an opponent because they didn't have them.
Not to mention, the SSJ1 ships *are* published *and* I paid good money for 'em.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 08:08 pm: Edit |
I wont miss the Peladine
By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 09:12 pm: Edit |
I agree I had downloaded them into my library and went to look for them to check out there DD selection for this game and noticed they had been removed.
And if www.peladine.com has the same ships up it really doesn't make alot of sense. Its just policy I guess. Im happy there getting published and honestly I would buy this new publication of them, but to take whats been available freely away is strange.
I understand they are modifying a few ships, that would be the stuff were paying for I should think. Its a good thing DBoM died or Eol would be down a race.
We can only hope they don't take ages to publish the stuff and my undertanding was not 3 months but 6.
There a very fun race, its a shame we don't have access to them now. When as Dale rightly points out some was published and paid for in SSJ.

I've still got the Peladine DEFs in my library, and have backed them up in case the updater tries to get "cute" and remove them. If anyone needs 'em for the campaign, email me.
By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 09:33 pm: Edit |
Cool, pays not to update the library or im just not seeing them.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 09:49 pm: Edit |
Ah I have Peladine on this computer. But Id be tempted to updated it anyway
By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 10:42 pm: Edit |
I asked in the Ship Submitted why the Pels were dropped.
I also backed up my copy of them.
Cheers

Gentlemen, the playtest versions of the Peladine that are in E4 are not necessarily the same as the ones that Jessica did. Having two different versions of the ships would be very not cool.
Had there been an active campaign using those ships, things might well have been different, don't you think? The Steves are not in the habit of hurting the fans.

Jean,
Having ships that are in play and in the library yanked is very not cool. Having the old versions online would not have impaired my purchase of the new Peladine module in the least, but having them pulled when I'd like to play them is not enticing.
Fortunately I have backups, but having to email them to opponents and have them use them as user-defined ships is less than ideal.
In any case, I look forward to buying the Peladine module - and buy it I will - but in the meantime, I don't plan to stop playing Peladine because they've been yanked from the library.
By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 - 11:34 pm: Edit |
Dale, do you mind taking this up with the Steves and Paul by email? I am not privy to the contract between ADB, Inc. and Paul Franz Games, but I'm pretty sure that the Steves and Paul would not have done something that violated that contract. And this is something far better suited to email as it no doubt involves legal issues.
I do know that having two sets of playtest ships out at any one time can lead to conflicting reports, especially if someone thinks the ships are the same. I am sorry that the removal bothers you so. To upset our customers was not our goal.

Perhaps with an announcement somewhere once the issue has been properly explained, so that those in campaigns (or wanting to run campaigns) know what is going on.
Thanks.

OK thanks to webmom the Squadron Commander campaign now has its own topic. Please move all SC campaign discussion to that thread. Thank you!
