E4? I thought E4 was Borak

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 07:54 am: Edit

Jeremy is doing Navy stuff so when he comes back and finishes the Borak, they will be E3.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 01:22 pm: Edit

E3 is Borak, E4 is Peladine.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 01:24 pm: Edit

Nobody asked ADB about taking the Peladine down, so don't blame ADB.

I'm not sure who did it or why, but presuming it was Paul Franz he can put the old ones back up.

E4 is NOT to be put on SFBOL EVER (same for E3). When it becomes C-something, THEN we can do that. SPP and I will discuss putting a few E4 ships on SFBOL for testing purposes.

So the Pels are back in action ?
:)

Cheers
Frank

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 05:43 pm: Edit

Frank, yes -- the old version, not the new.

By Francois Lemay (Princeton) on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 - 08:58 pm: Edit

Thanks jean.

Cheers
Frank

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, July 07, 2011 - 11:20 am: Edit

ADB never said to take the Pels out of action and was not told that they were being taking out of action, so stop blaming us.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Thursday, July 07, 2011 - 12:22 pm: Edit

What is important is they should be available again. You let us know; the problem was fixed. Let's all move on from here.

By Jessica Orsini (Jessica) on Thursday, July 07, 2011 - 09:34 pm: Edit

By the way, folks: thank you for someone pointing out that the Peladine site was still showing this material. I've now fixed it, with a nice pointer to the Star Fleet Universe site so folks can pick up a copy of E4. :)

By Andrew Granger (Captaincf) on Friday, July 08, 2011 - 03:17 pm: Edit

What are the old and new versions of the Peladine?

By Peter Thoenen (Eol) on Saturday, July 09, 2011 - 05:02 pm: Edit

A race that Jessica made years ago which have been semi-official (http://www.peladine.com/) ... it appears they are finally moving towards more official status getting republished as module E4 (with some changes I assume .. haven't seen it yet).

I will note, as far as I can tell, you can't actual order E4 yet :(

I'm thinking about starting an Empires at War 2.

It would run side by side Frank's current EaW.

I would like discussion on interest and start year.

Races available would be the center empires.
Federation,Kzinti,Klingon,Tholian,Romulan,Gorn,Orion you would be able to choose the cartel that is centered in either of the Fed/Kln/Rom areas.

I would use pretty much the same rules as Frank does in his. I would love to see Frank Join this camp so he could actually play some games instead of just doing admin work.

If there is enough interest I will modify what rules from Franks camp I wish to do.

Let me know gents.

Michael

For those of us not in Frank's campaign, are the rules readily available? I might be interested, but it depends on how much paperwork there is.

Hmmmm tempting... No kitties?!?

SFBOL campaign demographic supports about 1.5 campaigns. Currently EaW and Squadron Commander are filling those slots and Squadron Commander is in a death spiral and needs de-fib. Don't forget RAT, NK Andro playtest initiatives as well. What happens is the people getting whipped in one campaign move to the other for a "fresh start" then both campaigns languish slow deaths or fail all together. Witness DboM/TaOS.

As much as I like to play and EaW heating up for constant streams of battles each season, individuals will be hard pressed to get games scheduled blah blah blah blah ad infinitum. I'm all for more campaigns but SFBOL community might be 30 or so people divided into groups: Tourney, Tourney/Campaign, Campaign/Non-tourney patrol, and people who sign up and drop for RL reasons. I'm thinking it might be better to wait for Squadron Commander to tank completely before firing this up.

@Troy- In EaW after three years (Y165-Y168) most empires are managing 9-15 300-600BPV fleets. I use a 6 page spreadsheet to track everything(economics, logistics, hulls, fleets, orders etc) and the GM has similar but different tracking system. Less time than SE0004 for paper work but the research hours are killer. We will be needing Captains and Vice Admirals to fly battles very soon as the empires have reached maximum non-conflict expansion so every year going forward will have multiple battles.

We were... but not anymore.

I use a 6 page spreadsheet to track everything(economics, logistics, hulls, fleets, orders etc) and the GM has similar but different tracking system.

I do it all with a few lines in Notepad.

We will be needing Captains and Vice Admirals to fly battles very soon as the empires have reached maximum non-conflict expansion so every year going forward will have multiple battles.

We need our battle captain to have a break after constant battles for the last couple of months.

Care to give us a break?

:)

Good words of advice Troy. It would be about 2 months before I would even consider starting.

This is why I wanted to start a discussion on it. I know EaW is starting to heat up some and it will be interesting to see how much more activity is coming in the near future.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, January 04, 2012 - 06:04 pm: Edit

Yeah, I dare say over the next couple of months you will get a pretty good view of how much time these battles will take.

Much like EaW, Id consider playing EaW2, but again would really only be able to play an Admiral role, and would need to farm out the battles.

By Troy Williams (Jungletoy) on Wednesday, January 04, 2012 - 06:32 pm: Edit

For sure, and even with 600BPV cap the setup for Hydrax was pretty cumbersome once the klinks had 50 or sixty drones in flight. Add carriers and fighters you would be lucky to finish a turn in an evening.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, January 04, 2012 - 09:15 pm: Edit

I actually pushed for EaW to be 300/400/500 (or something like this) as the caps for BPV.

With 600/800/1000 plus up to 200 or 300 more brought in with all the optionals, the battles will take a lifetime.

And we really dont know how the changes in map sizes and disengagement rules would change things.

Who knows... with smaller fleet sizes I would even consider playing the battles sometimes, but I simply cant with the large fleets.

By Michael Helbig (Admgrraven) on Thursday, January 05, 2012 - 08:18 am: Edit

Smaller fleet sizes might be an option. Also I'm thinking about doing various sizes on maps. Not all of them will be the same size.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Thursday, January 05, 2012 - 03:19 pm: Edit

Different sized maps would be excellent. That way no particular empire would have any advantage.

By Troy Latta (Saaur) on Thursday, January 05, 2012 - 03:30 pm: Edit

There's no way to do it in SFBOL (at least not right now) but my home group uses an hexagonal map that we inherited from Andy Vancil. It's 25 hexes from the center to any corner and works well for every race we've thrown into it so far.

By Mike Kenyon (Mikek) on Thursday, January 05, 2012 - 04:16 pm: Edit

I have to concur with Troy there, it works really well - I'd say even better for a semi-floating map. Effectively, you could make a 51x51 hex map and "black out" the corners to acheive the equivalent.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Thursday, January 05, 2012 - 05:48 pm: Edit

Why is a hexagon better than a square or a rectangle?
