I found a note that the Marco Polo was destroyed in the survey zone in Y176. Anybody know what happened? If we have printed a scenario, I cannot find it, but the gameverse is pretty big so maybe I missed it.

Can you identify the lost scenario?

Or can you give Petrick and idea for what happened so he can spin up a scenario?

The various products of the Star Fleet Universe are full of "hooks" and "seeds" for new scenarios. These historical notes, buried in the craziest of places, describe battles that have never been made into scenarios. Petrick can do that, IF you can give him an idea, a concept, a plot, a story, something for him to get his rules-writing teeth into.

If you cannot think of a scenario idea, and cannot hope to write the tedious special rules, you can still become a published scenario creator. Just help Steve Petrick with a little creative push to show him what special rules he needs to write.

Randy, the note is in Cap Log #41 in the Class History article, it simply notes that the Marco Polo "was lost with all hands to an unknown cause".

Oh wow. Cool.
I actually already have a story written about a GSC that survives a monster encounter, but it could just as easily be written such that it doesn't. It was the Columbus, but I can change it to the Marco Polo with a few mouse clicks.

EDIT - I even have a scenario for it, even if it hasn't been playtested yet.

I am not going to pick a writer before Petrick does the scenario, so no more "I volunteer to write the story" posts. More than one writer is interested. No one writer will get to lock up all of the stories; a writer who shows an interest might be assigned one of these and given a strict deadline for an outline, a draft, and a final story.

So far, all there is in this topic is the fact of the unexplained loss of the Marco Polo. I have no better scenario idea beyond the statement the ship was lost. A scenario saying a black hole mysteriously appears and swallows the ship would be pretty uninteresting (no one has suggested such, I am just pointing out that a scenario needs to be interesting, that the player needs to have a chance to accomplish something interesting).

The primary problem with the Marco Polo is that I am pretty certain at his juncture that SVC (he may have forgotten) intended the ship to be destroyed in an early encounter with the Xorkaelians. If so, any "historical" scenario covering the ship's loss literally needs to wait until the Xorkaelians can appear to do the foul deed. If not, then some scenario would need to have the ship running afoul of something that would not include the destruction of the ship in its own data base.

So, pending SVC checking his own data on whether he intended the ship to be wacked by the Xorkaelians, I am putting this one to the side.

Norkaelians?

Not Xorkaelians?
