The replacement of Second Generation descriptions with the the Third Generation needs to happen, and soon. ADB is confident that serious progress will begin very soon and be sustained to the end.

Those helping the project need to get the format nailed down ASAP and start doing the conversions ASAP.

The tournament ships will be done last (and may not be converted at all if players don't prefer to the system).

There is no need or place for anguish about this. It will get done, but complaining about the need for the project only slows it down causes problems. ADB didn't create this problem, has been patient for a year as nothing happened, and is doing all it can to help Paul fix it. Remember that SVC is your friend (perhaps your only one at HQ) and will keep the werewolf at bay for as long as he can, but time is not infinite.

Just noticed Josh's post re entering the Movement Cost .

How is that done ?

Thanks.

Cheers

Frank,
You got to the "Properties" tab. "movement_cost" is one of the entries in the table.

Frank,
If you could update the D5 hulls with the arc positions that would be great.

By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - 08:30 am: Edit

Actually what I was saying is that the only piece of information left on the file I lost was movement cost.

Normally as part of the conversion process all the EA form and Properties tab info is automatically transferred into the converted ship file. So you should not need to set a move cost when converting a ship but would if it was a built from scratch ship definition.

Shouldn't heavy weapon fighter boxes need their own box type?

I'm working on the Monarch and there is no way to indicate that the ship has 4 Stinger H boxes without heavy weapon fighters being added to the list of systems.

Normally when you take damage you have the choice of taking a regular fighter box or heavy weapon, with the new format SSD's that doesn't seem possible to do.

What do you suggest Paul? Currently I have the Monarch with 9 FTR w Tube boxes and 9 Fighter boxes. But I think it would be better if the SSD tool could support HW fighters as a separate box type.

Also for scouts special sensors do we need to assign them to be hit on the correct system for that type scout or is that information automatically imported when you do the conversion?

hey they look cool to me.

Josh,
Do you mean alternate fighter boxes? Currently, there are 2 kinds of fighter boxes (not counting a fighter box with a launch tube) on a Hydran ship that I have seen. Fighter boxes with Fusion ready racks and fighter boxes with Hellbore ready racks. Are you seeing double bays.

By Matthew Potter (Neonpico) on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - 08:53 pm: Edit

I think that's what he is referring to. Boxes for "attack" (i.e. disruptor-armed, Photon-armed, Plas-F armed, Hellbore-armed shuttles) and boxes for "regular"/"superiority" fighters (Drone-armed, phaser-armed, Fusion-armed, and Plas-D armed shuttles).

BTW, are we supposed to use the double-shuutle-box for ships with them (i.e. for HTS)? I've noticed that it frells the expendables when someone wants to trade in the HTS for a pair of admins.

By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - 09:06 pm: Edit

I've sent 5 E3's and 11 E4's to Paul in addition to those sent earlier today.

I didn't see the with hellbore ready racks option on the list.

All I see available is Fighter, Fighter Box, Fighter w/ Tube. And Fighter box is a fighter damage point for a fighter definition I think. Where should I be looking for the hellbore/fusion option.

By Josh Driscol (Gfb) on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - 09:08 pm: Edit

Double bay shuttle boxes should automatically convert now, good point about the trading shuttles for smaller ones problem maybe that can be fixed.

The G2 and G2C sent to Paul.

54 ships and 12 hours into my mission, I'm ready for a break.

Josh,
Sorry if I was not explicit. I was talking about the 2nd Gen SSDs. The fighter boxes have one of two symbols in them that represent whether the fighter box has a hellbore ready rack or a fusion ready rack. IIRC, Federation has the same thing for the A-20s. The type they represent is usually on the SSD. Currently, the 3rd Gen SSD tool does not support this at the moment. I was just suggesting adding this.

I would need to figure out how to represent this. That is whether to have a different type of fighter box based on weapon or just have 2 different types and maybe have a way to denote what is the weapon type for each "kind"

With about a hundred ships converted, I think it's clear that fears of massive workload have not been borne out.

We do need to start seeing them uploaded and in use. I know Paul F is pushing through the issues there and we all want to see them in action.

And they are not only more functional but look cool.

By Paul Scott (The_Rock) on Thursday, October 17, 2013 - 01:21 am: Edit

You can thank Paul F. for that. When the conversion process started, it was going to be a massive workload, but Paul designed a couple of conversion tools that really trim the time off.

Yes I agree the Pictures of the ships look good. Well done to all involved in the third generation ship descriptions.
