Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Star Fleet Battles: Star Fleet Battles Online: Tournaments: SFBOL World League 2: Archive through May 17, 2014

Matthew,

Hmm. Yeah, I can't manage to get anything out of that. The address bar just says:

http://www.starfleetgames.com/discus/

Regardless of what page I'm on. What method did you use to pull the URL from it? Like, again, it is possible that I'm just being incredibly dense here. But I got nothing.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 08:45 am: Edit

Paul,

Yeah, I'm inclined to probably go with either random pick order or reverse order of Schirmer rating. Given that most of the folks signed up are a known quantity, I suspect that by spreading out the real ringers (by making them Captains, basically), we'll end up with mostly roughly equivalent teams anyway.

I suggest right clicking your message and going to create shortcut.

This creates a link on your desktop which has the full address to this topic in it. Right click the link and go to properties and copy the full address then paste it into your email.

I hope that helps it should take you directly to the world league topic.

Hmm, yeah, Mac. I don't have some of those controls. But I did manage to find the "open frame in new window" command, which gets me a non Framed page copy of the page that has the actual URL on the top. So I figured it out anyway. Thanks!

By Matthew Potter (Neonpico) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 12:21 pm: Edit

Yeah. Sorry Peter. I do Tabbed Browsing alot. Which means that only one of my messages are framed (since I open the others in tabs). Once out of the frame, I can get the URL directly. Sorry for the mess-up. I shoulda assumed the framed page was the starting point.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 12:27 pm: Edit

Ah, yeah, ok. That makes sense. Yeah, I always end up on the framed page (that only ever shows the main frame page URL), and at some point in time had known how to get the interior frame out of the main frame, but I forgot how, and couldn't remember (and as I'm a Mac guy, it never occurs to me to right click on things, and then when I do, it usually solves the problem :-)

Thanks!

We are now at 23:

-Majead Farsi
-Josh Driscol
-Matthew Potter
-Kenneth Rotar Sir_Krotar
-Peter Bakija bakija
-Stephen McCann
-Ken Lin Old_School
-Barry Kirk baldnforty
-Andy Koch droid
-Chris Proper duke
-Paul Scott The_Rock
-Dan Bennett V_Raptor
-Brian Evans Romwe
-David Zimdars
-Paul Franz Andromedan
-Josh Saxton blackwind
-Scott Moellmer Lord_Goofy
-Bill Schoeller BS
-John Rigley CrashandBurn
-Ron Brimeyer captainron
-Andrew Vancil Laszlo
-Jon Biggar jonbig
-Michael Helbig

If your SFBOL callsign isn't listed above, please e-mail it to me.

So the current plan is this: I'll keep registration time open till May 25, as that is two weeks from when I announced taking sign ups. When we hit 24 people, the first 24 will all be in the tournament. Anyone else signing up after that will be on reserve/fill in/replacements, *until* we get to 30, at which point all 30 are in the tournament, and anyone after that is reserve/fill in/replacement.

If you are players 25-29, try hard to get more people to sign up :-)

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 05:20 pm: Edit

Ok, we are now at exactly 24 with the addition of Geoff Clark (Spartan).

From this point on, please continue signing up, but players 25-29 are currently on reserve (as replacements/wildcards), until we hit 30 players, which allows us two more teams in a situation that works well.

If we end up with exactly 27 players (9 teams), I'll make it work with 9 teams, but 9 teams is a drag, as it requires the occasional "bye" mixed in.

By Paul Scott (The_Rock) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 05:20 pm: Edit

Peter - pretty certain (did not call-sign look-up) on the below.

-Majead Farsi Devil
-Josh Driscol Sir_GaiusFrackingBaltar
-Matthew Potter Neonpico
-Kenneth Rotar Sir_Krotar
-Peter Bakija bakija
-Stephen McCann
-Ken Lin Old_School
-Barry Kirk baldnforty
-Andy Koch droid
-Chris Proper duke
-Paul Scott The_Rock
-Dan Bennett V_Raptor
-Brian Evans Romwe
-David Zimdars AdmiralDZZI
-Paul Franz Andromedan
-Josh Saxton blackwind
-Scott Moellmer Lord_Goofy
-Bill Schoeller BS
-John Rigley CrashandBurn
-Ron Brimeyer captainron
-Andrew Vancil Laszlo
-Jon Biggar jonbig
-Michael Helbig [don't recall]

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 05:37 pm: Edit

Peter,
Stephen McCann is Moose.
Michael Helbig is Grraven.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 - 05:59 pm: Edit

Thank you! As noted, I know most of them, but not by perfect capitalization. So that is the first 24 all with appropriate e-mail and SFBOL callsigns. Nice.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 04:31 pm: Edit

Ok, as of press time, we are holding strong at 24:

-Majead Farsi Devil
-Josh Driscol Sir_GaiusFrackingBaltar
-Matthew Potter Neonpico
-Kenneth Rotar Sir_Krotar
-Peter Bakija bakija
-Stephen McCann
-Ken Lin Old_School
-Barry Kirk BaldnForty
-Andy Koch droid
-Chris Proper duke
-Paul Scott The_Rock
-Dan Bennett V_Raptor
-Brian Evans Romwe
-David Zimdars AdmiralDZZI
-Paul Franz Andromedan
-Josh Saxton blackwind
-Scott Moellmer Lord_Goofy
-Bill Schoeller BS
-John Rigley CrashandBurn
-Ron Brimeyer captainron
-Andrew Vancil Laszlo
-Jon Biggar jonbig
-Michael Helbig Grraven
-Geoff Clark Spartan

As noted, 24 is the right number for 8 teams (which works perfectly as 2 pools of 4 teams each). People who sign up now are alternates/replacements (numbers 25-29) unless we get to 30 (which is another perfect number of teams).

Barry--is that the right capitalization for your callsign?

By Andrew J Koch (Droid) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 07:18 pm: Edit

I think you know this, but the capitalization is not correct for Droid or Duke. I think BaldnForty is correct, although I am pretty darn sure he's fifty now.
I think one of the advantages of using the SFBOL signup link is that the callsigns come through accurately

By Chris Proper (Duke) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 08:28 pm: Edit

Dude, don't argue with the judge or he won't draft us.
Lower case will be fine. Or I could change my call sign to

£ëppÿrd F®g

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 08:54 pm: Edit

Damnation. So Droid and Duke? And, man, Chris. I *want* that call sign! Two umlauts!

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 09:01 pm: Edit

The capitalization for Barry's callsign is wrong. It is BaldnForty.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 09:02 pm: Edit

Isn't that what I have (in the last list)?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 - 10:42 pm: Edit

Oops!!yes. Sorry.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 08:47 am: Edit

Heh. I wasn't sure if I was losing my mind of vision or not :-)

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 03:56 pm: Edit

Ok, so we now are up to 25 with the addition of:

-Seth Shimansky kingzilla

He knows he is currently on the waiting/replacement list. If we can get 2 more players, we can go with 9 teams (not optimal, but workable). If we can get 5 more, we can have 30 (which works well enough).

Shake some trees and get at least a couple more people!

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 04:27 pm: Edit

And now Paul Grave (Grim) is in, so we need *one more player* for 9 teams (which, again, isn't optimal, but I can make it work).

Someone sign up!

By Michael Kenyon (Mikek) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 06:22 pm: Edit

ScottishEngineer is in!

By Paul Scott (The_Rock) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 06:28 pm: Edit

9 teams. 3 more to not make Peter's life hell. ;)

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 09:51 pm: Edit

Ok, I haven't gotten an e-mail from Michael indicating he is in (please shoot me an e-mail so I have your e-mail and call sign all in one place :-), but I'm going to assume that he is up for it based on the above message.

Which puts us at 27:
-Majead Farsi Devil
-Josh Driscol Sir_GaiusFrackingBaltar
-Matthew Potter Neonpico
-Kenneth Rotar Sir_Krotar
-Peter Bakija bakija
-Stephen McCann
-Ken Lin Old_School
-Barry Kirk BaldnForty
-Andy Koch droid
-Chris Proper duke
-Paul Scott The_Rock
-Dan Bennett V_Raptor
-Brian Evans Romwe
-David Zimdars AdmiralDZZI
-Paul Franz Andromedan
-Josh Saxton blackwind
-Scott Moellmer Lord_Goofy
-Bill Schoeller BS
-John Rigley CrashandBurn
-Ron Brimeyer captainron
-Andrew Vancil Laszlo
-Jon Biggar jonbig
-Michael Helbig Grraven
-Geoff Clark Spartan
-Seth Shimansky kingzilla
-Paul Graves Grim
-Michael Kenyon ScottishEngineer

Which is exactly 9 teams. Which is workable, but not super awesome, as it involves "byes" and is difficult to match people (I mean, I'll certainly make it work, but still)--so if we can find 3 more, that would be vastly more awesome (as 10 teams is a much better number).

By Josh Saxton (Blackwind) on Saturday, May 17, 2014 - 04:00 am: Edit

I don't see Tartan Army on the list, I believe he mentioned he was in, if so we would only need to find 2 more.
