Update on WL final game
Majead and I have played 9 turns so far, probably to continue this Saturday. The first 7 turns were a lot of weaving and bobbin, him running from plasma and sniping with long range disruptor fire and me weaseling his scatter pack and maneuvering for board position. We both used our bonus HET while I suffered more shield damage and my 3 and 4 shields were about half strength. Things heated up a bit on turn 8 when I forced him to weasel 45 points of plasma. On turn 9 he decided to eat a 60 point ept in exchange for a range 8 shot on my half strength 3 shield with 3 OLs, 1 standard and 5 ph1s, netting 14 internals after some reinforcement. I lost a phaser 1, phaser 3 and 2 warp - not bad. Before I could turn off he had a range 8 follow-up shot thru my downed shield with 2 ph 2s, but he whiffed rolling 2 5s.

Any news?
By Majead Farsi (Devil) on Saturday, January 06, 2018 - 09:21 pm: Edit |
We are Turn 15, both ships have a lot of internals with many shields down. We both have around 26 power on our ships. Gorn has lost all batts and klingon has 1. Drones all gone too. Gorn has 2xS and 1x F + 3x p1 left. Klingon has 1x Dist, 4xp1 and 2x p2 left.
Gorn has used 2x cdr's and Klingon 1.
To continue but it will not go beyond next session and it will be a short one either way.

Krieg and I have played this matchup every week for 5 weeks and its over on turn 16 with Devil over Krieg. One of the best games I have played and win or lose it was fun. I had to at least win one game for my team
I was wondering if this makes me a good luck charm for any team I play in my teams in past few years have been winners

I saw quite a bit of the game, a very interesting battle, a good game.

Congrats to Team Orion Oldies in Bikinis!

And It's Over! Congrats to Team Orion Oldies in Bikinis, going 2-1 over Team BCS!
Winning Team:
Orion Oldies in Bikinis
-Ken Lin/Old_School (ATC)
-Majead Farsi/Devil (KLI)
-Jarod Ikeda/Sleepy_Cat (ZIN)
That wasn't terrible, time wise. The first round started on August 7th, so about 5 months? I mean, like, not super speedy or anything, but not terrible. Go Team Us!
Thanks everyone for playing and being cool opponents/competitors. I'll start a new one of these up in, like, May or June again.
Now to go update the website...

Thanks for running the event, Peter!

I do what I can!
Yeah, it actually all works pretty well with exactly 24 people (so we can have 2 pools each of 4x3 player teams), so the matches kind of all arrange themselves. I like the draft system (so we end up with mostly even-ish teams).
I'm still not quite sure about the point system; I'd like to have something that results in fewer 1st round ties. But I'm not sure what would fix that.
Currently, the point system is:
-4 points for a win.
-2 points for a loss.
-0 points for not showing up.
-2 points for various other outcomes (settled tie, concession, etc.)
It is possible that maybe making Time Out or "settled tie" (which is basically "we have run out of time, but have a game in process that would get adjudicated in a single elimination tournament, but here we can just call it a tie") worth 3 points would fix that, but then that theoretically gives people incentive to stall out on games they are losing just to have it called a tie, as you would get more points for a tie than if you just concede (or lose). Maybe make Win 5 points, Lose 3 points, Time Out 2 points? Then you have more incentive to try and win, and it is more beneficial to concede honorably than it is to drag things out and hope for a tie? Ooh. That might be the way to go.

I like making a loss worth more than a tie. That gives incentive to play the game. So that new points scheme may work well. I also like the draft system. It has worked well the last few years. Thanks for running this Peter!

Thanks Peter for running the tourney! Was a great time! I'm good with whatever system is used for points, but I think the win 5, lose 3, time out 2 pts is worth a shot!

It's all gone very quiet. Is it time for a new Masters? The last one was in 2013...
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 - 08:42 pm: Edit |
Maybe? We currently have PH going; the last RAT isn't done yet. Andy usually runs Master when it happens...
By Andrew J Koch (Droid) on Thursday, February 01, 2018 - 01:20 pm: Edit |
Well I did say I would start Masters as soon as WL wound down.
By Josh Saxton (Blackwind) on Saturday, February 03, 2018 - 07:35 pm: Edit |
Is the masters formatted differently? Sorry for the newbie question.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, February 03, 2018 - 11:27 pm: Edit |
Yeah--you get a random ship at the start of the tournament, and then every time you advance, you get to play as the ship you just beat.

Interesting. Thanks Peter.
