I am OK with calling the game, according to the game rules if left unchecked the smaller an empire started out the easier it is to gain % growth with planets and that empire has a huge advantage to win the game, no empire that started out as a major empire has a chance of winning U-6 with the Tholians,JF,Canadians having so much growth.
Next game will be full of combat I would think;)

Bah....The campaign is just getting interesting. The majority of the NPCs have been absorbed, most of the races are similar in system count or catching up. The JC could become a large race with 16+ systems. The only way left to expand is into each other. I smell war on the horizon.
The campaign ending goals only reflect what we have done to date, not what we could do. How many of you are just now getting into the fun toys in your YIS charts? (battleships, war cruisers, etc.)? How many of you have wars to wage?
Like Lucky, I can go either way with the future of the campaign. I always see the positive possibilities of a new start in the game and have already pondered race choices and strategies. (New campaign starts are also really good for newer GC players.) BUT, I am also attached to the U6 Tholians and the continued unfolding of the long term strategy devised in the first few turns of the campaign.
Much like U5 to U7, it might be fair to also look at the first 19-20 years of U6 as one campaign and anything past that as a second campaign....reset the victory conditions, racial goals and maybe alliances for 174.1 or 175.1 forward. This would be Mike's call, the econs and ship counts are getting silly and battles will get uggggggggllllllyy.

Canadiens? You assume the Canadiens and their eight legged partners in crime are keeping the Deltan and Romulan systems they have raided.

Gaah, for me the game is getting more interesting. I want to continue the game.
In theory, a set end date for the game should be seriously considered. My preference is well past X2. When reached, all victory points will be calculated, etc.
When the "double blind" game starts down the road, I promise not to reveal my location until the full map has been presented. Exploring the great unknown has an appeal!

The double blind maps are seriously fun until somebody says "give me your map and I will put it with mine and these 4 other guys to make a real map. We just have to keep the blindness to make it fun.
By Kurt Byanski (Kurtski) on Tuesday, February 04, 2020 - 11:55 am: Edit |
That partly why you only do a double blind for fixed period of time. It helps everyone develop their initial space without prejudice, but once races start to meet each other, you can assume the MM and orions have sold all the maps to each other.

Something to keep in mind: It still takes a lot of growth for even the former small races to get to the %550 trigger. The Jindarians need about 39 major systems, Canadiens 36, the Triaxians 33, and the Tholians 30 systems. This would not happen in the immediate future...Alliances could win in the meantime. It's not over til the fat lady sings.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my U.F.P. and it's strength. I was just saying if it is already written in stone lets start over.

The best way to keep a double blind map blind (until empires start meeting each other) is for the GM to keep the master and every Empire gets their own small map with their HW in the middle and the HW hex number is A1. But this type of double blind is a nightmare to GMs.
And like Kurt and John Stiff, I think the current game is just getting started.
By John L Stiff (Tarkin22180) on Tuesday, February 04, 2020 - 08:58 pm: Edit |
39 majors for victory indarians? Gee, is it even possible to grow by a factor of 6 (i.e. the Jindarian Confederation)?
That is a novel way to do things - HW in the middle. Until by chance one meets a player/NPC controlled neighbor or uninhabited systems. Yes, it will be a nightmare for the GMs as the game progresses.

i think i would have won the battle at B40 then moved into tholian space and started taking planets after that. i had it planed out to be a walk in the park. but the alliance thing put a end to that.
nice win guys.

Looks like we are going to need a U8 Forum.

The Jindarian Federation needed 34 Majors, each starting minor counted as 1/2.
I had 15 MRR groups running, maxed out HW of 60 points of Compact shipyards.
I was capable of producing 5 full DN groups a turn working on being able to produce 6 full DN groups a turn, I had SY's everywhere!
I was 3 turns away from winning by having so many new planets coming up on the map.
U-6 was absolutely fun!

Hail Jindy, True Emperor of the Jindarian Empire.
I did not match your magnificence! I had 10 MRR groups running. My MM cold not keep up with building the minor system requirements. Three were created at about the same time with more on the way, and I had to wait and wait and wait on the MM! It was an embarrassment of riches.
Before the game ended, I was turning on 9 minor systems to majors at once. My EEP would be zero with 16 producing majors - an almost accomplishment I am proud of.
This was my first running of the Jindarians. Once I got my space legs - I learned to like them despite their speed 2 limitation.
I look forward to U8!
