As noted by (OK1.114) in Module Omega 5 and the 2011 Omega Master Rulebook, the "volatile warp" technology package which the Mæsrons passed on to other Omega Octant empires in the Sixth Cycle included data on Interceptors. However, most of those recipient factions skipped over the INT concept entirely - without even bothering to build a single sample - and turned straight to fielding full-fledged PFs.

However, there are a number of Omega factions for whom INTs existed; either as early prototypes (such as with the FRA and Mæsrons), or as units which had specific uses in their own right (for the Iridani and Zosmans).

So, I thought it worth trying to decide what a "volatile warp" Interceptor might look like, and how it could be made to be "something different" than merely a scaled-down PF.

Since most "volatile warp" PFs have something between 10 and 12 warp boxes, would that give "volatile warp" INTs an average of 7 or 8?

In the case of the FRA, it's likely that only a handful of prototypes ever existed. And even those were probably never deployed before they were turned over to the Mæsrons for further study. Even so, I suppose a "what-if" design may not be entirely out of the question. (Since the conjectural FRA PF looks like a miniature CL, it would be neat if the INT looked like a scaled-down FF.)

As for the Mæsrons, it is noted that the need to handle tachyon missiles effectively made the larger-than-average size of their PF necessary. So, perhaps their "Interceptor" was itself larger than the average.

For the Iridani, the big question would be whether or not their INTs would be modular. Or rather, if the current PF modules are too big to fit in an INT frame, and (if so) whether or not the Iridani would bother with creating a smaller module to suit. If one thinks of the Iridani PF as a scaled-down Caravel, I kind of like the idea of the INT looking like a scaled-down Yawl (or Sloop): non-modular, yet still capable of being converted into a series of mission-specific roles (such as this one, perhaps). As with the Mæsrons, it could be that what the Iridani call an "Interceptor" is much larger than the average INT design. It could be more agile, to boot; with a Turn Mode of AA instead of A for the Iridani PF.

We don't know yet what Zosman PFs looks like, let alone their INTs; though it is noted that, somehow, the INTs are easier to hide behind Stealth fields. I could see the Zosmans creating "mini-modules", designed to work with both INTs and PFs; with an INT mounting a single module, and a PF carrying two at a time. (In effect, the INT would look like a scaled-down Zosman frigate, while the PF would be akin to a miniaturized Zosman destroyer.)

Which other Omega factions bothered to experiment with the Interceptor concept could be decided at some point in time, yet each should have some particular reason to do so. (Perhaps the Hivers classed "volatile warp" INTs as "war destroyers", and PFs as "heavy war destroyers"?) At least this would save on SSD space, since there would be no point in drawing up a host of conjectural designs for those empires which skipped INTs entirely.
