For almost a year the galaxy had complete peace, no more wars. Prosperity was set to return in a new golden age of cooperation and exploration. Then astrophysicists on Sol and Remus detected a very large radiation reading from the LMC. At first they thought it was a supernova or new quasar, but as it continued expanding the energy source was a confirmed focused event, heading straight for the Milky Way Galaxy!
Disaster soon struck with huge antimatter holes cascading through all parts of the galaxy. The wake left behind this bombardment; Unnavigable zones. In an incredible stroke of luck only one empire lost citizens, in a most tragic way. The last of the Drex perished as the galaxy watched their home world writhe and boil from a direct hit. The Drex that were able to get out scattered across the galaxy. All that was the Drex home world is gone.
What is known:
When hit you have some time for evacuation.
Anything left after a few turns is destroyed (including whole systems).
It may be possible to mitigate the effects of the UnNav zone creation.
More waves of antimatter have been detected heading this way.
This is a deliberate attack on the Milky Way galaxy. No known natural phenomenon could cause this destruction.

As soon as the radiation interference clears the galaxy will have a complete view of the disaster.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of Drex psychology is that, as a race, the "Be All and End All" of their existence is servitude towards their masters, the Drexari.

IF I'm right, then the destruction of their homeworld would have (likely) meant the death of every last Drexari, and under that scenario, the remaining Drex would see themselves as (literally) having no purpose.

I suspect that if that were the case, they'd just shut themselves down...

OTOH, if anyone wishes to play them, could the few surviving Drex be on a quest to try and find any Drexari who, for whatever reason, might have been off their homeworld at the time it was destroyed?

One would hope that the STM could be more precise. The Eastern Milky Way comprises parts of the Khol, Frax, Alunda, Canadien, Qari and Jindarian territory.

Since annihilation is assured, we will party like there is no tomorrow! As far as the western and central Milky Way is concerned - let me say "I hope your disaster relief departments are fully funded - some of us will be in dire need".

It is odd that we have an east side when our map wraps from east to west. Draw a line vertically through the center of the map and look at how many races are located either east or west (based on a flat map). East: most of Qixa, Gorn, some Kol, Frax, Alunda, UFP, Tholian, Romulan, Canadien, Jindarian, Vari. West: little bit of Qixa, Ryn, Kol, Alunda, Lyran, LDR, Kzinti, Klingon, Hydran, Qari, Seltorian, UFP, Wyn.

Maybe the Andros are lost? Our east could be their west. If they invade the east/west divide they will be confused.

They might encounter the north and south barrier! Not even their Displacement Devices could cross from north to south.
