Eh, when doing battle group articles I sometimes name ships after those who've passed.

Jay, IMO, there's nothing wrong with offering a suggestion (in fact, it's just what these proposal boards are here to do ).
Also, on a personal note, I'm sure most everyone in the community has, at one time or another, thought about wanting a ship named for someone in their family tree who's passed.
In my case, I do have two (almost) famous people in my family tree; my great-great-Grandmother, Doctor Sophronia Nichols, was the second woman granted a medical license who practiced West of the Mississippi River and, in the town where she set up her practice (Alpine, California, near the border with Mexico), is the cornerstone figure for the town Historical Society. Most of what she's famous for was getting the medical profession to understand the role of medical grade cleanliness in child delivery; work that tremendously reduced neo-natal child loss.
There've been times when I've wanted to suggest an auxiliary hospital ship to be named after her, but TBH, its only purpose in a scenario would be as a target.
The other (semi-)famous person in my family tree was Dr. Nichols great-Grandfather, Reverend Joseph Thaxter, who served as the Chaplain for the Continental Army at the Battle of Bunker Hill. In all fairness, I don't think there'd be a ship named after him, but perhaps one of the shuttles aboard the cruiser Bunker Hill?
Were we to ask everyone in the community about it, I'm sure we could get scores, perhaps even HUNDREDS of names for ships; too many to really be expected to use them all, but still, there's nothing wrong in asking.

(considering what's going on in the world, the name I'd like to suggest for a Sigvirion ship would probably get me lynched... )
