I don't see why the WYN don't have a drone variant of their gunboat. It would replace the disruptor with a drone rack, and make all of the drone racks type-B. This would likely be a common variant and have its own leader version.

The utility of this gunboat is first and foremost to combat invaders. While the opponents are under the effects of the barrier, they are less able to deal with seeking weapons. Being able to pump out 50% more drones for 50% longer allows gunboat flotillas to more effectively overwhelm the invaders defenses.

Plus, the drones are a stand-off weapon and the disruptor is a power-hungry weapon. By using the drone-only armament, it allows the gunboat to stay back and use its power more defensively.

While we're at it, a phaser variant (with the disruptor replaced by a Ph-1) would be cool for the WYN, too.

As you observed in another thread, the Freedom Fighters are not as good as other PFs. What effects would drone variants have on play balance in Zone defense scenarios?
