Federation GSC Heavy Fighter Carrier Variant?

Hi!

We're all familiar with the CVL variant of the Federation GSC. There's also the GVX variant of the GSX.

What about a carrier for heavy fighters on the non-X GSC?

It seems (perhaps too?) obvious, and as such, I'd guess it has probably been brought up before; this is just meant as a "What if nobody has yet?" kind of post.

Wouldn't it only be able to hold three heavies?

Jon,

Any Federation carrier that carries X F-18s can carry X/2 F-101s. That requires no new ships or SSD. So, presumably, Jeff is actually asking for a GSC variant that has six mech links in order to carry a full squadron for F-111s or F-101s. That would be a new ship and require a new SSD.

You are correct, Mike; what I was picturing was for this ship to carry a full squadron of six F-111s or F-101s on external mech-links.

Actually, if I may, here's what I've done with my crayons-and-graph-paper... :)

I took the rear hull of the GSC SSD (from my badly battered copy of the Advanced Missions SSD book) and...

1. Swapped out the location of the TRAC and the AUX
2. Reduced the SHTL by four boxes
3. Shifted the PH-3-360 back
4. Expanded the (relocated) TRAC by four boxes
5. Installed Heavy Fighter Mech Links in the TRAC

... And with that had the new carrier design.

(I will admit at this time to NOT having module X1R, although I do recall having the X-Ship version of this ship in one of the editions of Captain's Log; I just can't remember which one. I do remember it operating a full squadron, but my memory isn't backed up on disk the way it's supposed to be.)

Still, you asked a very sensible question Jon, and I should have been clearer about it. My apologies.

The GSX with F-111s is designated as GVX. It is a GSC converted to X-Tech and carries a full squadron of F-111s.

The CVL (based on the GSC hull) could be, in theory, converted to carry a full squadron of F-111s. I don't see it happening except as an unbuilt variant at best.

Although, I believe it might be DOA because of the CVH. Which a CVS with F-111s instead of F-18s, but without the scout sensors.

By Jeffrey George Anderson (Jeff) on Sunday, October 27, 2019 - 05:03 pm: Edit

TBH, Thomas, I also think it might be DOA; it's a very obvious variant but it isn't (yet) a part of SFU Canon. That combo leads me to think it's been considered and rejected. I only opened this thread up because of how often my guesses are wrong. :)

(Also, as far as the CVH goes, I could swear I have an SSD with one operating A-20Fs. That's not to say they DON'T operate F-111s, I just can't remember having seen that on an SSD for that ship. Guess I have a little project for this afternoon, I type with a grin...)

The CVH is reference R2.100. The CAV (A-20 Carrier wtih special sensors) is R2.132.

Ah, yes. Thank you, Turtle.

Both CVH and CAV are CVS based ships, though. I still have my heart (?) set on something GSC based.

(Call me weird that way...)
