A "South Polar" simulator empire?

As noted elsewhere, the North Polar fleet has made appearances in Federation Commander, in A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, and also on the Shapeways storefront. (Although I might personally have preferred the North Polar "people" to have been inspired by the Arcturians, rather than the Vulcans, but anyway...)

For what little it's worth, I found myself wondering in turn whether or not a simulator "South Polar" fleet could be worked up, perhaps based on one of Antartica's most prominent inhabitants: penguins!

One could perhaps make the ships of the South Polar fleet look like various species of penguin: with an Emperor Penguin dreadnought, a King Penguin heavy battlecruiser (or light dreadnought), etc; perhaps with one or more of the oversized extinct types as "conjectural" hulls (such as battleships or light battleships). In which case, perhaps the South Polar "people" could be based on either the pacifistic "mainstream" Arcturians, or the more militant members of the Ferkite order (who make up approximately 5% of Arcturia's population). Although, there is a certain holiday movie in which the concept of "South Pole elves" is name-dropped, so I'm not sure if that might pose a problem for ADB here.

Or, perhaps the South Polar "people" could themselves be penguins, with the ships inspired by items used in the Southern Hemisphere to mark the holiday season - which, of course, takes place in summer, rather than in winter as is the case north of the Equator.

For my part, I was thinking that the "line" ships could perhaps be based on those species of penguin to be found in and around Antarctica itself; whereas a set of long-range survey hulls could instead be inspired by those more far-flung communities of penguin, such as the Humboldt and Galapagos types.

In any event, I was wondering if this might be a way to give the North Polar fleet a suitably festive rival - either in having both species be directly at odds, or perhaps in more of a "friendly competition" way, in terms of who gets to pass on the most Holiday cheer. Or something or other.

But, if this sounds like an idea worth buying under the Antarctic ice sheet, never to be seen again, fair enough...

You are stretching, but why not Atlanteans, as well.

And perhaps integration of Leopard Seals or Weddell's Seals (two species that live around Antarctica year round) may help get approval?

(Oh! Hi, Corporal! What's that? You don't like the "Seal of Approval" word play? Sheesh!)

Maybe Annunaki?

The South Polar main weapon will be a high-intensity ultra-violet radiation beam developed from studying the ozone hole.....

The south polar antagonists could be either shoggoths or Elder Things, as described in the Mountains of Madness story by Lovecraft. Certainly shoggoths would be pretty scary in ground combat (big as a subway car, lots of tentacles and able to change shape).

The things that should not be.

I actually like that name for a product, Wayne.

All good, It does have a Lovecraft ring to it though, Nick.

They could have an icicle cruiser, a snowball battle station, a glacier starbase. snowflake frigate, sleet fighters, etc.

A special weapon could be a "fogbank" with some similarities to the ESG, but something different to make it unique.
