Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Star Fleet Battles: Battle Forces for Captain's Log: Archive through January 02, 2020

Bad use of a key weapon, if you use it as a tractor, you cannot fire it as a weapon until you re arm it (use it as a tractor on Turn #1, you cannot fire it any earlier than Impulse #1 of Turn #3, and only if you dropped the tractor link by Impulse #32 of Turn #1, if you maintain the tractor until Impulse #1 of Turn #2, you cannot fire it as a TR beam any earlier than Impulse #1 of Turn #4,

Intruders, in any case, include one standard tractor beam in addition to their TRHs.

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Saturday, December 28, 2019 - 04:21 pm: Edit

If you wanted to drag something and it was really important, a TR beam on an Intruder is less vulnerable than the sole tractor beam (I don't think TR beams can be hit on tractor).

In the case of a shuttle that you wanted to destroy, generally firing the TR beam would be just as effective (and possibly faster) than dragging.

A TR on a shuttle sheesh over kill and more.

I regret I did not complete my tactics article yet. I have no excuses. It was just poor time management on my part. I did get the article started and will complete it prior to the deadline, but I apologize for not getting it in this weekend, when I had said I would.

Hydran tactics article sent.

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Monday, December 30, 2019 - 03:20 pm: Edit

Currently 11 tactics articles submitted. Note that there was one submitted for one empire that was sent back with an, in essence, "this will not do," and I am hoping the author has worked on a revision to resubmit. Alan Trevor has advised of his status,

Working on tactics at map board pushing counters. Intend to send completed tactics tonight.

Kzinti commander.

Klingon tactics sent. I'm not too happy with them as I don't play drone users that often, and have probably blundered. Bu I'm out of time.

By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Monday, December 30, 2019 - 11:05 pm: Edit

What's the deadline for sending in the tactics article for this scenario?

By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Monday, December 30, 2019 - 11:20 pm: Edit

I believe it's tomorrow. Not sure about the exact time, though.

Orion tactics were sent yesterday afternoon. (Password/Account got dropped from BBS so I could not respond earlier.)

By Ginger McMurray (Gingermcmurray) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 09:09 am: Edit

Speaking as an interested outside party, how do these things work? Are the tactics used by the ADB folks to determine a winner?

By Gregory S Flusche (Vandar) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 09:51 am: Edit

Not sure about that. I just know that if it is good enough it goes in captains log so others can read your tactics

By Eddie E Crutchfield (Librarian101) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 11:39 am: Edit

Ginger, winners and losers are not determined, these are starting points for the engagements. The one thing you have to remember in determining your plan, is what is the final objective. It may not always depend on defeating the enemy, although in many that will lead to the win. In a scenario like this where you have multiple enemies an outright defeating of the enemies is very difficult, so you have to ask yourself, what are the alternatives.

John Wyszynski

Now that all of our groups tactics are in, a curiosity question, given that all of your non-phaser weapons needed seeking weapon channels to work efficiently, why didn't you take OAKDISC? Nine seeking weapon control channels seems a bit light, even with six more from a scout sensor.

4 C-racks, 3 B-racks, 3 plasma, and 2 PPDs, can take sixteen SW channels on a busy turn, and that does not allow for pseudo plasma, left over drones from previous turns which you seem to be planning on having given the use of extended range on some of your drones, or scatter packs and suicide shuttles.

By John Wyszynski (Starsabre) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 04:59 pm: Edit

My ships have the normal six control channels each. OAKDISC allows a ship to launch from more than three drone or plasma racks per turn and provides double drone control. Neither apply here.

Thank you, I sit corrected.

By Kurt Byanski (Kurtski) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 05:31 pm: Edit

Qixa tactics were submitted yesterday in a flu induced haze. If they were not received, please let me know.

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Wednesday, January 01, 2020 - 06:08 pm: Edit

Kurt Byanski:

Your Qixa tactics were indeed received.

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Thursday, January 02, 2020 - 03:12 pm: Edit

All battle group commanders have submitted. So far, one has been sent back requesting clarification. The other 15 have gone through a format and edit process, and I will try to send them back to the authors for review and possible correction where it is found I misunderstood something in the editing process.
