Andy! Tell us what happened!

Or Bill. Either way.

Whelp.
on t-1 we headed toward each other at moderate speed with standards armed.
I fiddled around with a corner dodge to keep the range from getting much closer than 15.
Toward the end of the turn we reached range 15 and fired standards. Bill did 9 to my #6 that stuck and I did 9 to his number 6 with 1 sticking.
I announced ESGs 1.32. BIll launched a menacing looking shuttle.

t2
I armed 2 disr and 2 standards with a 20/26/14 split and 2 in trac. My idea was was to take his shot and turn in and trac him, firing second and letting my esgs do most of the anti drone work. This is usually the way I beat the Klingon
Bill went 16/26 with slowdown to 15 somewhere later in the turn. No doubt a perfectly timed slowdown to 15. Actually I cant verify it was 15 because we never got that far, but Klingons go speed 15 alot.
1.4 My ESGs came up at R3 full strength. I forgot my usual anti-klingon ESG radii are 0 and 3. R3 so it hits drones before it gets blown off. R0 for the 5 extra str.
1.8 (I think) the SP blossomed. I run over his SP drones which reduced me to 8 points on my #2 ESG. Somewhere in there I accelerated to 26, and now couldn't make a turn without an HET
Bill waddled around wide and turned in. I fired a standard disr at his #6 (now 4 pnts of damage to his 6) He launched a shuttle and 2 drones. We arrived at range 3 His 24 pt #6 to my 21 pt #6. He blasted 4ols 5 p-1s and I fired 2 p-1s. Bill'd fire did 31ish in on me and got a battery, and I conceded. I had no way to avoid his p-2s and 3s next impulse.
I made a bunch of goofy mistakes:
My biggest I think was not turning in earlier get my #2 away from him.
Also my ESGs were set at a bad radius.
Also, given the earlier dubious decisions, I should have blasted back at R3 instead of relying on my batteries not getting blown off.
Bill probably beats me anyway. I don't think I've ever beaten him.
I would like to have given him a better fight however. If not just to provide more entertainment for all of you home bound spectators..
At least Sapphire 3 ended ahead of schedule!
Nice work Bill....Congrats

I have asked Jean Sexton Beddow to start the recruiting for Sapphire Star IV. I see no reason to waste the remaining 10 days allocated to Sapphire Star III to run out beforehand.

My thanks to all of the participants in Sapphire Star III for bringing it to a conclusion. The good nature and willingness to step up and adhere to the schedule has brought us here. Also thanks to Paul Franz for his tireless efforts to keep SFBOl going and make this venue available.
