As of this morning we have 11 sign ups.

John P. Rigley: You were listed as having signed up twice, I have deleted the duplicate from my list and will check to make sure that your duplicate sign up is not billed.

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Monday, June 22, 2020 - 02:27 pm: Edit

Correction:

We have ten (10) sign ups as of this morning.

John P. Rigley: You were signed up three (3) times. This has been corrected.

Duplicate.

I have not yet signed up, due to holding on ship choice--as noted, I kinda wanna be the Andromedan, but I'm still not sure which one it is.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Monday, June 22, 2020 - 10:36 pm: Edit

Peter,
Email sent to Petrick sharing my opinion on how the Andromedan flew in the last tournament and the correction needed to make it have at least a chance on winning.

By wayne douglas power (Wayne) on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 - 01:05 am: Edit

If not using 2x TRH and 3 battery, then at least 3x TRL and 4 battery for Andromedan.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 - 11:11 am: Edit

Thanks, Paul; I'll just register as "Andro" and see what I end up in :-)

I sassily did some trawling through past topics to see what the last Andro was but I came up with zip

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 - 11:27 am: Edit

Adam Hunter has signed up making 12.

I would like to see if Peter can pull off a win with the existing Andro.

The Andro is very hard to balance because of its recovery from damage. It can clear the panels and be ready for another attack run far, far faster than a Galactic ship can repair his shields. That clearance ability is not the same thing as being weak because the panels cover the forward (and rear) three arcs and are thus not as strong. Literally, the Galactic ship has to put pressure on the Andromedan, he cannot give it time to clear the panels.

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 - 12:05 pm: Edit

The Andro in T2012 has 3 TRL's and 4 batteries. It would have TRH's instead when fighting against another Andro. It has 9 hull and 6 cargo.

Is there another officially sanction version then that one?

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 - 11:11 pm: Edit

Jack,
The current Andromedan is the T2011 but with TRLs instead of TRHs.

Yes. The max damage if you centerline at range 3 is 44 points of damage. (That includes 6 P2s).

Centerline:
Average at Range 0: 41
Average at Range 3: 39
Average at Range 5: 22
Average at Range 8: 17

The point of the above is to point out that the Andromedan has very little chance of even penetrating a ships shield on the first battle pass. And if you are flying a disruptor ship you can make the Andromedan's first pass pointless (i.e. show no or little damage to the shields).

Which brings us to the defense. Given that there are only 3 batteries (i.e. maximum of 15 points to absorb energy in a panel dump). It makes doing a panel dump a very difficult proposition.

Given that at Standard Level the Andromedan Krait holds 24 points of energy. If the Andromedan receives 24 points of damage, that is 5 points of degradation leaving 19 energy. The only way to remove that energy needs is to dissipate or absorb it at the end of the turn.

So you need to fly around the rest of the turn with that energy in your panel. Then hope that you are able to turn the rear panel away from your opponent the next turn. Which means turning towards you opponent give them a chance to close the range.

I think the Andromedan will need 8 to 10 turns to defeat his opponent. And that assumes the Andromedan is able to hit the same non-reinforced shield at least 2 times if not 3.

So I feel that either the Andromedan needs better defense (i.e. more batteries) or better offense to have a fighting chance to win.

I've always been a fan of 1xTRH (FH), 1xTRL(LS), 1xTRL(RS), 4 batteries or maybe just 3.

I guess the main issue here is it isn't really obvious what the existing Andro is.

The Andro posted on the ADB Tournament site ( http://www.starfleetgames.com/sfb/tournament/tourn_down.shtml#SSD ) is one that has 3TRL, 6P2, 4 btty. But is also listed as "Playtest Version--Not Sanctioned".

SFBOL has 6 different SSDs for the Andro on it, and none of them are specifically listed as the "sanctioned" version.

Like, as noted, I'll play whatever. I'm just not actually sure which is the right one :-)

If I read Paul's comment correctly, the ship in question is the 2011 Playtest version (2TRH, 3 btty, 6P2), but with the TRH's replaced with TRLs?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 08:52 am: Edit

Successfully registered as the Andro.

But whenever I click on links to the SFBOL website, I get a dire "THIS IS NOT SECURE" warning, and need to click through some "YOU SURE YOU WANNA GO TO THIS SITE?" and "REALLY? IT"S PROBABLY HACKERS, YA KNOW..." and "WE TRIED TO WARN YOU, BUT OK."

Is there something set wrong on the SFBOL site?

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 02:49 pm: Edit

I am convinced I remember fighting 2 TRH 3 batts several times.
It's still fairly easy to beat. To give it TRLs is ridiculous. As in, worthy of ridicule.

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 02:54 pm: Edit

So wait. What Peter linked to and what Paul flew are two different things.
Paul's has 3 batts and Pete's has 4 Batts.
Hmm.

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 02:55 pm: Edit

I also thought we decided that 4 batts was still too much ...
I have to start writing this stuff down..

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 04:22 pm: Edit

Yeah, that's all of the issue here. There are a *lot* of Andro SSDs in circulation, and none of them are apparently the actual one.

I *think* the Andro that I have volunteered to play is the 2011 playtest version (2TRH, 3 btty, 6P2), but with TRLs. Which seems a pretty brutal uphill climb. But I volunteered :-)

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 06:16 pm: Edit

We have 14 Sign ups.

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Thursday, June 25, 2020 - 02:50 pm: Edit

3 trls or 2?
I don't see the point in a 3 batt trl version of the Andro even existing when the TRH 3 batt version is already marginal.
But hey. You volunteered...

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, June 25, 2020 - 05:38 pm: Edit

It is still unclear. I think last time, Paul was playing 2TRL, 6P2, 3btty. Which I suspect is mostly going to get killed, but maybe not? It's still an Andro.

Peter,
This issue is that certificate is expired and I need to wait for moving to the new server to renew it. Because Lets Encrypted removed support for the older protocol and I am unable to update to use the latest protocol
