For clarity, it looks like we got access to:
-Fed with G-Rack (presumably? Not clear on sign up).
-Andro (2TRH, 3xBTTY?)
-Vudar
For this one. This is correct, yeah?

(I'm in in one of the goofy playtest ships).

My son and I are going to take another run at getting out of the first round, although we are fish until proven otherwise. I will be in a Klingon, this time, since I have been playing that more than plasma lately, and Trent will be in his usual Hydran.

I'm playing the Vudar. VUDAR!
It's like a Fed, but with less crunch power!

The Vudar have a better chance to hit with heavies, an interesting ship.

Ya'd think so. But history (and experience) indicates that it is a rough one to do well with.

No new signups over night. Still holding at 7 or 8 (I have no confirmation that the two Cridland signups are in fact two different people).
By Graham Cridland (Grahamcridland) on Tuesday, January 05, 2021 - 11:27 am: Edit |
Confirmed.
Trent Cridland is in a Hydran.
Graham Cridland is in a Klingon.

Took a ship that crushes the Vudar

VUUUUUDAR!
Ahem.
So in looking at the current SSD (now that I'm committed to it), I now recall that it only has the one IPG. I think it originally had 2 of them, and then got one removed when folks were experimenting with using the EW shift (which, if experimentally using the EW shift is only good), but now that I remember the last time I used it, only 1 IPG when restricted to the pulse damage (which allows you to do, IIRC, up to 4 damage to all drone/shuttles within 2 hexes, once per IPG per turn) was problematic--drones get spread out a lot so that you still gotta deal with them through mundane means, and with only 1 IPG, you can't kill a shuttle or heavy drone (let alone a Stinger).
I suspect the ship should have 2xIPG (assuming it is restricted to pulse damage only), but we'll see how it goes!
The Ion Cannons aren't at all terrible, mostly 'cause they have the beneficial range break at 5 hexes, where they jump to hitting on an 8 (72%), when all other heavy weapons are still at their least effective OL to hit number. But at range 5, assuming you hit with 3xOL and 6P1, you are gonna do, what, 36+21=57 damage. Which is a solid hit, certainly, but not so much it is gonna cripple anyone, and most other opponents can take that hit and keep coming to get a closer range shot on a rear shield (as the Vudar tries to avoid dying), and even down a torpedo and some phasers, probably do more damage in return.
But gamely, I'll try!

The Vudar Tournament ship in Module T 2012 is, 6xPH-1s, 2xPH-2s, 2xPH-3s, 1xIPG, and 4xION (2 are FX arc).
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, January 05, 2021 - 06:29 pm: Edit |
That is the one that is currently in use. But when it was originally issued (which was before T-2012), I'm pretty sure it had 2xIPG. And then we started messing around with it, and were tried using it with EW (there were at least a few playtesty tournaments on SFBOL where it used the EW function), and it was totally nuts (this was unsurprising), as, like, tractor beams missed lock on and whatever, and at some point, the second IPG got pulled out, and then after that it kind of ceased being played with much, and always officially, there was no EW function to the IPG, but I suspect that the second IPG came out around then.
I mean, it isn't impossible that I'm misremembering things, but I'm pretty sure that was the evolutionary path of the Vudar TC.
