Congrats to Justin

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, July 07, 2021 - 01:39 pm: Edit

Congratulations, Justin, and in the RFH no less.

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Wednesday, July 07, 2021 - 02:26 pm: Edit

The RFH is no joke Geoffrey!...

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, July 07, 2021 - 08:24 pm: Edit

Hey Andy,

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the RFH, and I've seen success with that ship. It is more a comment about Justin and his traditional ship selection. I guess I would say he has seen the light.

By Justin Royter (Metaldog) on Thursday, July 08, 2021 - 09:38 pm: Edit

1st time playing the TFH in a touney, ever, always thought it was OP on a fixed map, and it is. I am not a good plasma player, not alot of experience with the FH, its just a really good ship on a fixed map.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, July 09, 2021 - 08:39 am: Edit

Yeah, I don't know that it is overpowered on a fixed map. The TFH is good, certainly, and probably a top 5 ship in the field, but decades of stats suggest that it is, at best, "pretty good".

How did the battle go?

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 - 08:10 am: Edit

Well, we might not get any battle report from this final.

Peter, you reference this "decades of stats" thing ... I recall a report in a file named "SFBTRv2.pdf"

Appendix A.
General Results for Players and Ships Version 1.0
30 June 2012

On page 11 of 30, there is a chart which ranks 18 ships ...

Rank Ship / Win-Loss / Freq-weighted-%
01. WBS / 587-465 / 0.56
02. HYD / 793-645 / 0.55
03. ZIN / 700-668 / 0.51
04. GRN / 708-654 / 0.52
05. WAX / 558-449 / 0.55
06. ISC / 583-503 / 0.54
07. KLI / 793-841 / 0.49
08. RKR / 368-394 / 0.49
09. ORI / 541-497 / 0.52
10. AND / 109-103 / 0.51
11. SEL / 175-189 / 0.47
12. RFH / 424-498 / 0.46
13. FED / 469-704 / 0.41
14. RKE / 136-184 / 0.41
15. LYR / 479-531 / 0.48
16. THA / 326-338 / 0.48
17. THN / 179-218 / 0.45
18. LDR / 232-279 / 0.45

Is this what you are referring to?

I think we need to embark on an effort to update these stats, and aggregate in some new ways.

Any word on Sapphire 9?

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 - 09:31 am: Edit

All the tournament statistic stuff can be found

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 - 10:29 pm: Edit

Thanks Jack!

I guess I was hoping to get a report by ship and "food group" ... anyway, moving on to Masters 2021, I guess.

By wayne douglas power (Wayne) on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 - 12:52 am: Edit

Some ships need playing to increase those chart stats.

By Andy Koch (Droid) on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 - 09:56 am: Edit

I don't believe these stats are maintained any longer. I haven't seen hide nor hair from Robert Schirmer in an age.

They were only compiled from official Tourneys and the long dead (I think) NetKill games.
Random games (JFF) were not tracked.

I could be wrong. That happens from time to time. Feel free to disabuse

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Thursday, August 05, 2021 - 08:28 am: Edit

I sent an email to Mr. Schirmer to see if I can collaborate with him.

Interested in an open database that can be shared, maybe we can use a web-based tool so interested people can query by "drag & drop" (i.e. no SQL required).

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Thursday, August 05, 2021 - 08:35 am: Edit

BTW, this is where I'm at. If anyone has an interest in helping to improve this data, or at least collect it, please let me know.

I'm assembling some statistics of past RAT and Sapphire tournaments, in an effort to update some of the good work that I've seen done in the past, and also to stir up interest in SFBOL tournament play. From trial and error, I've been able to uncover the various results with links like this ...

https://www.sfbonline.com/show_results.jsp?tournament=ra08q1

That has yielded about 1000 data records of battles, for the tournaments listed below.

However, there are gaps, since I'm pretty sure I won something like RA12Q3 or RA12Q4, since I was the judge for RA13Q1.

Have any of these records been deleted or archived, please?

Also, some of the battles are not listed with a winner, especially the final. I guess a trip through the discussion message archive might resolve that?

RA08Q1-4
RA09Q1-4
RA10Q1
RA11Q1
RA12Q2
RA13Q1,2
RA14Q1,2
RA15Q1,2
RA16Q2
RA17Q1
RA18Q1
Sapphire 1-7

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Thursday, August 05, 2021 - 10:39 am: Edit

Hey Geof- I assume you looked through the data on the Schirmer website? There is a file archive there with a bunch of results if you scroll down

http://rwschirmer.weebly.com/file-archive.html

All the Sapphire stuff is still on the BBS I believe. There also used to be a World League Tourney I read somewhere. And all the old Masters tourneys.

I think this is a worthy effort. Assign me something to do and I will help.

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Thursday, August 05, 2021 - 11:21 am: Edit

Hey MetalDog,

It seems that you might have taken the RFH in prior tournaments ... the archives that we are discussing show that in RAT14Q1 your RFH:

* Round 1 - Defeated Andromedan's SEL
* Round 2 - Defeated CrashandBurn's WAX
* Round 3 - Defeated agent.of.change's WBS
* Round 4 - Defeated by The_Rock's HYD

http://rwschirmer.weebly.com/uploads/5/6/7/3/56735785/rat14q1_tree.pdf

Just saying that you've got a pretty good track record already in RFH. Maybe you are just meant to be a Romulan.

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Thursday, August 05, 2021 - 11:23 am: Edit

Hey MadJack,

I've seen the archives! Thanks for your help, and offer to help more. I'll compare Mr. Schirmer's trees, and see how much is clears up. I hope he will share his raw data ...

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Monday, August 09, 2021 - 11:28 am: Edit

When are we starting up another Sapphire tourney? It's been over a month since the last one ended. Thanks!

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Friday, September 10, 2021 - 06:30 am: Edit

Agree with Jack, does such a thing as Sapphire 9 exist?

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Friday, September 10, 2021 - 09:44 am: Edit

I saw this is in the latest newsletter:

ONLINE TOURNAMENTS

Sapphire Star 9 is currently scheduled to start on 1 Oct 21 to avoid conflicting with the Master’s event.
