Not quite over. Today should finish it. I feel like I have a pretty good advantage but my shields are so weak everywhere that I can make a mistake. The ISC needs 12 power for all it's weapons plus 3 to live. So he has 2 left for moving or tacs. At which point the ppd is wasted power as I'll close within 3 hexes. I have a lot of ph 3 shots. If he moves fast enough to keep the ppd in play he can't arm phasers.

I expect next turn he will fix 1 or 2 batteries to try and fast load the g torp. He has 1 batt but a single internal could kill it. That would be all of his repair.

I'm going to have to come to range 1 or 2, face him with a 1 point front shield and some reinforcement and take his 7 phasers. Then I'll shoot 10+ phasers back at him. Or maybe I shoot HB at range 8? Even without any doubling I have more power, cheaper arming weapons and more flexibility. I just have 5 trashed shields.

All hail the Pirate King!

Turn 5 - ISC plotted -8/-4, and too much to weapons. ORI plotted -6/-10/-16 accelerating from the emer decel. Imp 1 ISC fires 3xph-1s at shuttle at R9 to kill it before it becomes a WW. The last Orion shuttle blasts me at range 3 once I turn a 1 box #4, to try to keep his ship off my down #1. That's two more internals. My remaining phaser strike is not good enough to get through his reinf. Then the Orion gets on my down #1 and gives a solid 25 to finish me off. This last turn, I should have simply not armed the PPD, should have moved faster, like -8, should have repaired another btty or two and been ready for the quick load. His shuttle would not have been ready as WW yet, and in any case, I still had an unused PPT. But that's all in hindsight. If I really wanted to kill his shuttles, I should have done that much earlier.

The ISC is good at trashing all the shields, in this case not quite enough internals to really make the difference. Too many mistakes to pull this one out.

I think the chief mistake was made in Turn 1 EAF. I had plotted an EPT from C, and also 10 reinf on the #6. This means first that I'm not moving so fast (15/16/17), and that I want to approach on the #1 to keep the EPT in arc before shifting over to the #6 as we get into range 8 or less. Well, he comes out faster 19/26 and also has reinf on the #6 vs the PPD, so he wants to slip out enough to get on the #6, and so quickly gets outside the EPT arc. This is what led directly to the ISC turning in on 1.31 and therefore having to park on turn 2. That followed by several more questionable choices (in retrospect) gave the Orion fertile ground to play his game, and he did it well.

Hey Jack,

I thought you were going to polish off that pirate and come get me with ESGs?! How did things go in your battle?

I'm gonna have to think hard about which ship to take next time. The ISC is pretty fun to fly, and can be very tough in a long game, but it definitely lacks crunch power.

It wasn't meant to be. I beat that pirate up but couldn't beat him up enough. Nothing really went my way and Dana outplayed me. Happens sometimes!

I am glad he won the tournament and would have been happy if you had won too. You are both great and deserving players. I'll get the next one

We are in stasis as of right now. I think SPP has had a health glitch, and we need to iron out the running of said tourney's. I haven't broached the subject yet with Jean but let's say we get that ironed out in a week and have a 2 week sign up. We will make sure you're included. Have fun and don't get eaten by a bear.

AFAIK, SPP is still not really in shape to be distracted by running an event, but I could be wrong?

I am super busy for the next couple of months, with work and recreation, so I really don't have time to set it up. There is no one-stop shopping to get all the pieces together, and I am too occupied to chase it all down. (It's not really a huge deal, but still)
If you want me to run it, we will have to wait. If someone else wants to run it, start by getting permission from ADB to do so. Then E mail Jean S-B and Paul Franz... they both need to be involved, and it is a sideline for both of them. You will also do well to check your e mail contacts and send an e mail blast out yourself to 20 or so players and try and get 16 as Paul F may not get to it, it being a sideline for him
