Plasma Broadside Tracking Arcs

Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Star Fleet Battles: SFB Proposals Board: New Rules: (D) Combat Rules: Plasma Broadside Tracking Arcs

This is a proposal for a new Plasma Tracking Arc. As many of you are aware, the new Plasma armed companion to the FRAX, the PLAX, have side firing Plasma-D Racks. In contrast to standard Plasma-Ds, they're limited to firing solely in the L and R arcs; this is to keep them from being used as front (and rear) centerline offensive weapons, something that would be VERY out of character for something FRAX based.

While I agree wholeheartedly with that idea, the problems with such a limited arc came to a head when I started imagining a Plasma armed companion to the Britainians.

This proposal is meant to address that; it is for an expanded tracking arc for the Plasma-D racks on the PLAX and for the Plasma-F torpedoes in my Saurapis proposal.

This proposal is for tracking arcs that are across a 120 degree arc, centered around the middle of the L and R arcs. Essentially, the Left Broadside (LB for short) can track an enemy that would ordinarily be in BOTH the LP AND LPR tracking arcs and the Right Broadside (RB for short) can track an enemy tiat would ordinarily be in both the RP AND RPR tracking arcs.

As an example, a PLAX CA is in Hex 1010, facing Direction A. It is lined up against a column of four freighters; Freighter A is in hex 0908, Freighter B is in hex 0909, Freighter C is in Hex 0910, and Freighter D is lagging way behind in hex 0913.

Assuming the PLAX player wished to launch Plasma-Ds at one (or more) of these freighters, s/he would not be able to launch a Plasma-D in seeking mode at Freighter A; while it is in the LP arc, it is NOT in the LPR arc, so it is out of tracking arc for LB

Freighter B is in Plasma Tracking Arc for BOTH LP and LPR, so it is in tracking arc and may be launched on. It is, however, OUT of the singular L arc, so while it could have a Plasma-D launched at it in seeking mode, it could not have the Plasma-D bolted at it.

Freighter C is in Plasma Tracking Arc for both LP and LPR, so the PLAX player may launch a Plasma-D at it normally, BUT it is also in the L firing arc, so the PLAX player may also choose to bolt a Plasma-D at it.

Freighter C is in the LPR Plasma Tracking arc, but it is not in the LP Plasma Tracking arc, so it is too far aft for the LB arc.

I recognize this is a pretty weird idea, but feel it would be useful in this limited situation. What are your feelings/opinions on this?
