I realize this is an obvious variant but would still like to see an official SSD for it. The Feds have several conjectural PF tenders for their conjectural PFs, but no X-tech ones.

The proposed ship would start with a GVX, replace the six F-111-compatible mech-link tractors with PF-compatible mech-link tractors, and replace some (at least four) "Cargo" boxes with "Repair". I believe it would be useful for non-historical campaigns that both included X-ships and allowed conjectural units.

A GVX is a pretty high end option for this role.

I am not against this proposal, just pointing out that the BPV of the GVX (plus six PFs) is not cheap.

The combination of 6xPF’s and (what amounts to a 2nd generation X ship) GVX will out point a Late GW heavy Dreadnought.

Seems ideal for a RTN hunter.

High end, to be sure. But I think the Feds get their money's worth, whether as an RTN hunter^* or as a powerful EW platform (that also brings a PF flotilla) supporting a Fed X-fleet in battle against the Klingons. In the latter role it has four special sensors, like most X-scouts. But it also has more power to channel through those sensors than DDX-based or even CWX-based scouts do. And it has better shields than the DDX or CWX types as well, making it more survivable.


^*For my money, even though it's not X-tech, the KING of the RTN hunters is still the Kzinti SSCS. But talk about expensive! Compared to a fully outfitted SSCS, a GVX-based PFT looks positively cut-rate.

I am certain that players will have lots of opinions on how best to spend their BPV’s!

Seriously, in my opinion, the mission should determine the value and make up of the units assigned. (Unless a GVX and PF strike group are the only things left in the inventory!)

In a perfect world, the mission planners could pick and choose between any number of PF tenders...

As choices go, a GVX and a fully kitted out PF flotilla is not a bad choice!
