WHY QUESTIONS COMPILED TO THIS POINT.
By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Saturday, December 07, 2019 - 07:57 pm: Edit |
Since I usually play the Tholians, with the Romulans as a distant second, I have to know how to defend against drones but I'm not fully up to speed on drone construction. But I'm submitting a Klingon force for the current Captain's Log Battle Force and so I reviewed those rules and was surprised to learn that...
Slug Drones are limited availability.
Why?
By Jon Murdock (Xenocide) on Saturday, December 07, 2019 - 08:30 pm: Edit |
Presumably because they are generally only worthwhile against one particular enemy in one particular circumstance while combining armor with an explosive or some other system is almost always better. In the rare case that the ship ends up in a situation where they are the best choice it is unlikely the ship would just happen to be carrying a lot of slug drones.

Background: in various places, warp engine output is listed as #K MW, where # = six per warp engine box (e.g., a Federation heavy cruiser warp nacelle is listed as "90K MW").
Query: rather than "K MW" (1000 megawatt), why isn't the unit listed as "GW" (gigawatt)?
By Steve Zamboni (Szamboni) on Monday, December 09, 2019 - 05:06 pm: Edit |
Given the continued violence between the gigawatt and jigawatt factions, many areas switched to using KMW in an attempt to keep the peace.
For the same reason, KKMW remains in widespread use throughout the Quadrant due to political sensitivities of the term terawatt.

Is it a hard "g" or an easy "j"?

Just like the 10,000 km hexes we all know and love should be Petameters... (10^7)
???
Or did a childhood ignoring metric just mess me up again?
By Steve Zamboni (Szamboni) on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 - 12:21 am: Edit |
10,000 kilometers is 10 gigameters.
Peta is 10^15, I think. (May have to break out the scratch paper, too much time spent playing in binary math. Fortunately my ability to count hex has faded away.)
By Kosta Michalopoulos (Kosmic) on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 - 12:45 am: Edit |
Nope, 10,000 kilometres equals 10,000,000 metres equals 10 megametres.

Still can't buy Plutonium at the corner store though.

10,000 km = 10,000 km x 1000 m/km = 10,000,000 m
10^7 meters

10 megameters.
But, I could SWEAR I saw a reference long ago to MyKm.

I think the Carnivons prefer peta-meters...
However Lyrans and Kzintis are noncommittal about them.
;)

So long as they aren't PETA-meters...

Are you two forming a queue for the booth? :-)
By Jeff Wile (Jswile) on Friday, December 13, 2019 - 12:15 pm: Edit |
We have to get Web Moms approval, but there is a new (and so far untested...) option for the "hard cases".
It's the "mini Carnivon enhancement."
Along with all of the normal bells and whistles in the agonizer booths, we can release up to 20 assorted small animals (shitsu, schnauzers, wiener dogs, beagles, rat terriers, etc)
The catch is, how well fed they are prior to release, and the level of pheromones must be determined prior to the treatment session. (Can range from playful romp to feeding frenzy.)
Victims, uhmmm, err... "involuntary subjects" are warned that there is no promise that you will finish the treatment with all of the original limbs still attached. Prostheses may be provided at the discretion of the convening authority.

In the current Federation SIT for the CVA it states "Heavy Carrier. Fighters are F14s (8) and A10s (7); see (302.352). Can never be converted to use A20s due to balcony.
The DVA has a balcony. Why was it decided that the CVA could not operate A-20s from its balcony? Prior I think prior to 2016, when the updated Fighter Operations was publish, the CVA could operate A-20s
By Mike West (Mjwest) on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 - 12:29 pm: Edit |
Joe,
I am pretty sure that is in error, as it has been stated multiple times that a CVA can operate A-20s (and F-101s) just fine. (It can't operate F-111s, though.)

This is the wrong place for SIT items. It will never get fixed if posted here.

Looking for a Hydran Admiral replacement in Border Wars campaign.
Current year is spring Y164, Hydran have 7 borders, 4 with the Carnivons and 3 with the Klingons.
This is an online campaign using Matt Potter's wonderful program !
No book keeping involved, just assign your forces to scenarios, fight, enter result, repeat.
Scenario results pending on winning or losing could be inflate your income, deflate it, gain or lose borders etc.
If interested, please post here or send me an email for faster results.
Cheers
Frank

Some X-ships received very substantial shield upgrades over their standard-technology counterparts. Others received only minor upgrades. But at least two ships (maybe there are more than two and I'm just forgetting the others) received no shield upgrades* at all over their non-X versions. The Hydran Tartar-X and the Tholian CWX have exactly the same shields as the standard versions.
I've always wondered what it was about these particular ships that precluded their receiving any additional shield boxes at all. So I finally decided to just ask the question.
*I'm referring here to number of shield boxes. They do have the improved shield repair ability that all X-ships have.
By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Wednesday, October 05, 2022 - 12:30 pm: Edit |
By the way, rated by percent increase in number of shield boxes, the Tholians may have both the best (some of the Neo-Tholian X-ships) and (tied for) worst (CWX) shield increases.
Yay, I guess?
