Joseph Jackson:

Rule (J4.922): "A given fighter can only receive "lent" EW points from a single outside source."

Darn that J4.922. And we were was doing so well!

why not lure away those pesky ECM drones with scout channels?

By Michael F Guntly (Ares) on Tuesday, January 07, 2025 - 09:25 pm: Edit

Possibly because they are too far away?

After a careful review of the situation, I've not lured away, nor broken the lock-on of any enemy ECM drones due to a powerful deficiency of IQ on my part. Remedies are being considered.
I can't believe that at my age I'm self-assigning homework, and hitting the books. There is much to review. :)

Both sides have that option versus their targets but have generally played conservatively where drones are concerned and not use sensors for that purpose versus EW drones whether to attract them or (greater chance of failure) to turn them off. It is a choice whether to attempt the latter, provide protection to some of your own ships, or strip enemy ECM drones. The latter may be a way of saving scout power if in range as the attracted ECM drone will the then protect your ship.

Game #3a, Turn #8 continued:
A fairly extensive review of J4, G24, K2, And D6.3 preceeded play, followed by a more complete review of sections J, F, and FD; and then parts of E, R, M, and D. Then the horror of Turn #8 continued in earnest. For those of you with more sophisticated or experienced game play, you may want to walk away now. What follows can be scaring to the human psyche.
On Impulse #5, the D5M tactical maneuvers to bring fresh shields to bear against the Federation. At this time, the Klingon player realizes that he left a Fed transporter bomb in the path of most of his converging warships, all of whom will enter its detonation range simultaneously. The fleet can't change course without taking fire from the starbase. Scrambling, he uses reserve warp to speed up his AF5 (Which I've mistakenly been referring to as a F5E) to ram the mine ahead of the fleet. But that takes place a little later.
On Impulse #8, 22 Federation admin shuttles, pinned by Klingon transporter bombs, and their own minefield start activating booster packs for sacrificial shuttles to clear a path. The Klingons begin sniping these units with phaser fire as they fend off incoming drones as well.
The result is a mixed bag, the klingons burn thru a ton of phasers just before closing range on Fed defense installations; the Federation loses a whopping 17 shuttles, 3 F14s, and 1 A10.
Somewhere along the way in this Homeric Tragedy, the Federation NCL, and 3 A10s, tag the Klingon D5J with a mix of standard and overloaded photon torpedoes, smashing the penal ships forward shield and scoring some solid internals. Also, before the F14s ceased to be, they gatling phasered 3 Klingon ECM drones out of existence. (Yeah, i know, 3 F14's for 3 ECM drones is a crying shame. You were warned to not read this report . . .)
In the end, the Klingons reached range 5 of the planet, and using overloaded disruptors obliterate one facing GWS (ground warning station), and one facing GPS (ground power station).
Oh yeah, that AF5 that pushed ahead, took the t-bomb, and 8 phaser-2s (from defense satalites) losing its fwd shield. (The dice gods continue to curse my Federation weapons fire) no internal damage!
