bakija (ZIN) vs Jeff_G (GBS 11)

We managed to meet up and play 2 turns today.

T1: ZIN moves 16/31 (on 24), GBS moves 20 all turn. GBS turns off immediately, kind of loops back around, turning to C (started facing D) by mid turn. ZIN slips out some, launches the SP on impulse 10, slips in some. SP opens with 6xIM on impulse 19. ZIN turns to face F. At R15, the GBS fires 3 standards, hits with 2, does 1 damage to ZIN #2 shield after 5 seen reinforcement. GBS turns off to face B. ZIN fires 4 standard disruptors, hitting with 3, doing 4 damage after 5 seen reinforcement on the GBS #3. ZIN launches 4x1M late in the turn. GBS eventually turns to face A (going back towards starting hex). We end at about R10, ZIN facing A, GBS facing A, ZIN has 10 drones on the map in 2 different hexes.

T2: ZIN moves 16 till 10, then 26. GBS moves 27 all turn. GBS turns F early in the turn, moves towards the NW corner of the map. ZIN futzes around drones and follows, eventually turning F as well. GBS keeps moving towards the corner, ZIN keeps following, as do drones. GBS turns E. ZIN gets to R9 on impulse 25, fires 4 standards on the GBS #5 shield, only hits with 1, does 3 damage which is blocked by reinforcement. GBS gets near the West wall, turns to face D, a couple hexes from the wall. ZIN stays out of GBS FA. Impulse 31, GBS uses labs to ID 2 of 4 drones that are in the front arc of the GBS (both IM). Impulse 32, GBS slips to R1 from the 4 drones, ZIN slips out to be R6 outside of his FA. GBS launches 2 speed 20 drones, kills the 4 drones at R1 with 2xP1, 4xP3.

Neither of us have significant damage (I'm down a box on my #2, he's down 4 boxes on his #3). GBS is facing D, about 2 hexes from the West wall. ZIN is facing F, 6 hexes from the GBS, just out of the GBS's FA. ZIN has 6 medium drones on the map, about 3 hexes in direction B from the GBS. GBS has 2 drones in its hex, facing the ZIN.

We'll pick up this weekend some time, hopefully!

Got through most of 4 turns yesterday.

T1: I go 18/9/4. ISC goes 26/17. When I slow down he turns off. Impulse 32 he launches enveloper (B tube).

T2: I go -4 (paid braking energy)/0/4/9. I back up a hex and then launch a WW. As a result of WW movement, Greg has the plasma play ring around the WW. Plasma ultimately hits for 2 damage, so amazingly the weasel lives. I raise AFC and then tractor the weasel on board. ISC holds PPD and launches another enveloper (C tube) end of the turn.

T3: I go 4/9/19. I weasel the second enveloper - this time blowing up the weasel. I trundle towards center of map, ISC holds PPD. ISC launches a F torp (E tube). I put 4*Ph-1 into it at range 1 and then forced it to hit my #1 shield for 6 damage, which all bounced off reinforcement. ISC turns away again.

T4: I go 14/19/26. I pursue the ISC into southeast corner. He launches an enveloper from B tube. I eat it full strength. He launches another F torp (D tube). I put a couple of ph-3 into it and then take 12 to the #6 shield as I eat it. He launches another F torp (fast load, turns out to be real) and I turn south. He ends up hitting the wall to go zero, and then tacs to bring me into his FA. He fires PPD. He misses with the first wavelock at range 9. Second one hits. I take it mainly on the #6. Then I turn in to make sure I spread the love on my shields and can eat the F torp on a side shield. I let the torp hit me, it is real - 15 damage to #2 shield.

My shields are now in tatters (which is what happens when you charge a parked ISC). I mess up maneuver at this point ant get to range 4 on a weakened #2 shield (7 points) as opposed to my 15 point #1 shield. So, I decide to fire now.

You gotta understand. It is *hard* to setup a R4 shot on the ISC with the Fed. But I did it.

And - of course - miss with 2 photons. Phasers are average. I do 24 internals (only), which busts 2*F torp and 2*Ph-3 and 1*ph-1.

Almost certainly game. Shield are in tatters and ISC shields are fine except the #1 (which is usually what happens).

He returns fire with 4*ph-1. He does a few minor internals (1*ph-3, 2 power).

I launch a drone in expectation of losing the rack (but don't).

However, the ISC is almost utterly dry. Next impulse He can put 2 more ph-1 into my downs shield, so I'll take some more internals. I might be able to turn before he gives me 2*ph-3 he has remaining offside. This damage I can take, barring more bad luck.

So, while I consider myself only 20% likely to pull this out now, that's good enough for my fighting spirit. Next turn all he will have is phasers (which is a lot when your shields are in tatters and you are at knife-fight range). That gives me a chance to feed him some phaser love and - if I get lucky - hit him with another round of photons on turn #6 (assuming I'm not miziad to death on turn #5).

So, I will fight on.

On the other hand, this is the first time in AGES I've managed to get the Fed to do more than token damage or have a real shot at winning against a well-flown ISC. Small victories?

MadJack (Hydran) over Spartan (Firehawk) in 4 turns.

I hit with 3 out of 4 hellbores that helped. I rolled good with p1's that helped. I guessed correctly 2 times when Geoff needed me to choose poorly, that helped. I had a lot of help against a very skilled player. Me thinks Firehawks are running really uphill against Hydran players that kinda knows what they are doing.

Seltorian vs AUX,
Played three turns last night. Seltorian took the range eight shot at the end of turn one. As he was trying to stay out of the drone wave. He took the #2 shield down on the AUX and gave me two internals. Turn two the AUX chased the Bug taking a range 8 shot on his #5 with phasers doing a few points of damage. Turn 3 the Bug continues his high speed run to keep away from the drones.turn 3 Imp 25 AUX takes a range three shot for 17 damage on the #5 shield , which has 5 box’s left. Imp 32 I unload with one of the HB just hitting with a roll of a nine. Which took his #5 down and and gave him 6 internals , got a p3 and a SC out of it. Imp one of turn four we hope to give him the other HB.

T3: ZIN moves 26/19/14 (18 moves total); GBS moves 27 all turn. We start at R6, ZIN just out of GBS FA. ZIN has 6 drones on the map, 3 hexes from the GBS. GBS has 2 drones on the map in his hex. I figure he's gonna stop here. He does not, and announces speed 27. We move a few impulses, I ID his 2 incoming drones (both type I) and have to kill them with 2xP3 each when I kill them. I turn and I end up at R3, off his #5, facing my #6. I blast him with 4xOL, 4xP1. He returns fire with 3xP1. I hit with 2/4 OLs, do 16 with phasers, for 32 damage, I see 9 reinforcement (presumably, 5 of it was battery), and his shield holds at 1. I take a dozen damage to my #6. He launches 2 medium drones and a shuttle. I slow down to 19, and on impulse 7, I slip into R2 from his 1 box #5. I fire 4xP3, he fires 3xP3. I take another 10 on my #6, I roll well, do 15 damage, and score 14 internals, hitting 3 warp, a P3, a tractor, a disruptor, and hull. He keeps moving off, I tractor his shuttle at R2 and death drag it, turn off, slow down to 14, eventually kill his 2 pursuing drones with 2 of my drones. He kind of turns around towards me, and we end the turn at R17, me near the NW corner facing B, him in the middle of the map, facing A. I launch a couple medium drones late. He fixes a box on his #3.

T4: ZIN moves 14 all turn, GBS moves 24 all turn. He closes in a little, skirting around my 6xSP drones that are still alive, but will fall off the map around impulse 19 this turn. I just move towards the middle of the map. About impulse 12, GBS turns off again, showing me his down #5 at about 12 hexes. I hold fire, he moves and slips out, on impulse 16, I fire 4x standard disruptors at his down shield. He lucks out, and I hit with 1/4, for 3 damage. He blocks 2 with general (batteries?), loses another warp box to the internal. He turns off, moves away. My SP drones run out of endurance and fall off the map. I just move towards the middle of the map. He turns about and we end the turn at R15, me facing C, GBS facing E. I launch 4 more medium drones late in the turn. GBS repairs 2 boxes on his #5 shield (which I am surprised by).

I have a 7 box #6 shield, 1 damage on my #2, no internals. GBS has a 2 box #5, 3 damage on his #3, and 15 internals (4 warp, P3, disruptor, tractor, hull). No GBS CDR yet. ZIN has fired 3 drones from each rack (so 3 spaces of drones in each rack left). GBS has fired 4xIM (out of 2 total racks) so far. The GBS probably is very low on banked power (i.e. phaser capacitors and batteries are likely close to empty still).

Probably continuing Monday evening.
