I am in. I am "The Gorn". Hopefully Peter is also not "The Gorn". Cause that would be Gorns and I prefer to be "The Gorn"

Help me decide; the Kestrel or the Pirate?
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, January 05, 2024 - 01:07 pm: Edit |
I'm in a different, unforeseen ship, that will inevitably end in disaster!
By Carl-Magnus Carlsson (Hardcore) on Friday, January 05, 2024 - 02:38 pm: Edit |
Unforeseen? Sounds like a misclick^^

Kestrel is the RKR?
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, January 05, 2024 - 05:12 pm: Edit |
Yes.

I assume it is because they are K-class hulls, but i don't know. Old name in any case

Carl - KR easier to play than Pirate IMO. If you have played a lot of the pirate then I would say they are very close.

Jack, sorry I realise i should have provided more context. I found SFB sometime in the early 90's. It was the commander's ed, and people in the local gaming club asked me what race i wanted to play, and i replied that I thought the ships with birds of prey decals i had had as a plastic kit when I was a kid was very cool.
It's been Romulans since then. Started playing pbem once that become a thing, switched to the Kestrel when i convinced myself that is was not treason. Later I got bored and tried the orion.
Quit 14 years ago and now I want to play again.
If you pick one for me I will feel if it is right for me.
By Seth Shimansky (Kingzila) on Saturday, January 06, 2024 - 08:32 am: Edit |
If you are starting up again big plasma is the better option because you can be more competitive faster. I find the KR is a better ship than the Rom Fire Hawk because of the 2 extra p3 and extra bridge and better turn mode. Those 3 pluses out way the higher cloak cost to me. The Orion has a much longer learning curve.

I agree with Seth - surprisingly.
By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, January 06, 2024 - 02:05 pm: Edit |
The Kestrel thing is ADB's nomenclature for the ex-Klingon ships, just as Eagle for the old ship based on the pre-Warp War Birds and Hawk for the new modular General War designs.

Personally I like the KR over the FH because of the turn mode is better and you have matching LP/RP Plasma-S/F torpedoes

I look forward to observing the Sapphire Star 16 Tournament battles.
[I would like to learn more on how to operate the Andromedan TKC in SFBOL client, I will have to do some more NK battles on SFBOL]
all good
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, January 07, 2024 - 09:13 am: Edit |
Wayne,
The Andro TKC is still very hard to play; I think the current version is 2xTRH, 6xP2, but only 3 batteries, which makes emptying panels difficult, and makes running out of power a very real possibility.
Like, it is not completely hopeless, and a lot closer to a balanced ship (for the tournament as a whole) than previous versions, but it is definitely an uphill climb a *lot* of the time.
