Carl, another point, the Sapphire Star regulars are at least an order of magnitude more polite and understanding than the average convention tournament player you might be remembering too...

The empires selected appear like we will have a good diverse selection of opponents.

Jeff, sorry I do my best. I did sound sarcastic there, didn't I? Wasn't my intention. I wasn't 100% sure about the custom (15 years since last time) so I phrased it like a question so as not to appear a jerk.

Yeah, generally speaking, ship selection is a secret process, so folks can't, theoretically, game the system ("Ooh! The guy who won last time is playing the TFH! I'd better take the ATC!", or whatever).

That being said, it likely doesn't matter that much, most folks involved already picked their ships, and it was likely just an unintentional posting (i.e. a list was just copied and pasted wholesale). And being the guy who won the last one, I'm in a Hydran. It isn't like anyone is going to need to meta-game me :-)

I picked the HYD because it’s the only ship I am competitive in but it has some major disadvantages. The only person who schooled me in the HYD is Jason Gray in The Big Cat (he truly owned me in that game). I could have played the RKR and had an easier time but I wanted to hellbore Jack to death and just leave him with a probe knowing he would not give up.

Though, an idea for a charity event comes to mind... build a list of 'extras' that are all roughly balanced against one another and allow participants to pay real money to buy upgrades. Not sanctionable obviously but it might be fun...

Reminds me of a gaming tournament way back where participants could buy chits to be used in lieu of dice rolls. It was fun watching all of the yahtzee alpha strikes.... Not receiving them, but fun watching...
