Please sign me up!

SPP I'm wondering if I might request special permission to fly the ISC CM ship in this tournament?

By Seth Shimansky (Kingzila) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 08:17 am: Edit

SPP Please change my ship to the old Andro - the tournament killer back 25 years ago - I promise it will be fair to everyone else. I mean if this tournament will have ships with 6 plasma's - its only fair.

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 08:40 am: Edit

Seth is the only one who would miss with a TR at range 3, for sure.

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 02:35 pm: Edit

If y'all still need a guy next week let me know and I'll throw my hat in to get the tourney started.

Geoffrey Clark:
I do not have your name as signed up, probably because Jean has not gotten it. I will ask her about it.As to the ISC T-CM, If the other players see no problem, I will okay it, but if even one objects before we begin I will have to say "no!" So, does anyone object to the ISC T-CM? If we do have you officially signed up, we are down to just two empty slots.

Seth Shimansky:
You are kidding, right?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 04:39 pm: Edit

Seth is certainly kidding.

I'm ok with the ISC TCM.

By Seth Shimansky (Kingzila) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 04:40 pm: Edit

I am joking about the Andro.

ISC T-CM - The ship does look unbalanced to the strong side but Sparten got to see everyone's ship and then made this request. I am ok with it in the tournament but I also want to fly it - So if we let it in please change my ship to the ISC T - CM.

thank you
seth

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 04:58 pm: Edit

I do no know why the T-CM is necessarily better than the T-CC. Okay, you have an extra phaser-1 inn the FA arc ( because the FH phasers do not have FX arcs to cover the L and R arcs of the T-CM phasers) and have second turn plasma-Fs [because the four plasma-Fs are hindered from launching on one turn by the size class restriction (R13.C1)], but it is smaller.

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 05:19 pm: Edit

ISC MEDIUM TOURNAMENT CRUISER: Many ISC players
complained that the “normal” ISC star cruiser is so much bigger than other CCs that cutting it down to TCA level left the design very un-ISC-like. Players suggested that an ISC TC based on the
very popular CL hull might work better. The design herein should be considered a first experiment in creating such a ship.
The rear-firing torpedoes are under the restrictions of
(R13.1C). No more than one can be fired at a “ship” during any given turn or within a 1/4-turn period. All can be fired during a 1/
4-turn period during one or two turns if one (or more) are fired at non-ship targets. All plasma-Fs have ISC firing arcs able to track in L+LR/RR+R but launch only in directions C or E (assuming that the ship is facing A). The rear-firing plasma-Fs can NOT be destroyed on “drone”
hits. Playtesting may indicate that this is necessary, but since the ship is in fact an intact CM, testing will begin with no special nonISC rules.
Note that as this is a CL-based hull, there are only four batteries and the movement cost is 2/3

By Jack Taylor (Jtaylor) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 05:22 pm: Edit

No PPD padding and it only has 4 forward hull. As soon as it gets hit it's going to lose batteries as bad as a klingon so fewer fast-loads. The G's are FP so it can't be running and spitting them out. Best thing about it is TM C. I don't think it's going to be that tough myself.

Probably not a tournament breaker.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 05:35 pm: Edit

I'm not psyched that it has 4 rear arc plasma F's, as, well, I took a Hydran. But, well, maybe I won't run into it :-)

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 07:12 pm: Edit

Did I see everyone's ships? I think only certain people have revealed their ships, on a voluntary basis, Mr. Kingzilla.

Thanks everyone. This thread did answer the question about PPD padding (there is none) ... I'll consider this ship, and register shortly.

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - 07:24 pm: Edit

@Spartan:

You missed it. Petrick posted the whole current signup list with ships. WebMom later revised that post and deleted the ships (but retained the list of players).

By Geoffrey Clark (Spartan) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 01:15 am: Edit

OK, thanks @Catwhoeatsphotons. Regarding your suggestion above, please jump in!

The reasoning behind this ship is that it is the only plasma ship with a 2/3 movement, which can HET at speed 31. This is an undoubted manoeuvre advantage. This is balanced against the fragility of the ship, in terms of F-hull and lack of PPD padding. The extra rear F's are useful, but limited.

I think I will not take the CM this time, I'll consider it for future sapphires. I don't want to surprise Seth at the last minute. He is certainly welcome to take the ship, as was his request above! After the win in S14, and the loss in S15 in the final, I think I will place the ISC on the shelf for the time being. Will signup now on SFBOL site!

Tournament playtest report: LDR vs ISC TM. Turns 1 & 2 ISC launches 2 envelopers and 2 F torps and does shield damage. T3 imp 1, ISC takes 100 internals. End of report.
